Auto Sales April 2022: Mahindra's PV Sales Saw 18% Drop Over March 2022, YoY Growth Was 23%

Mahindra & Mahindra has released the monthly sales numbers for April 2022, during which the company's domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 22,526 units. Compared to the 27,603 vehicles sold in March 2022, the automaker saw a month-on-month decline of over 18 per cent. However, against the 18,285 vehicles sold in April 2021, Mahindra witnessed a year-on-year growth of 23 per cent. Now, we must consider the fact that last year in April India was hit by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in another lockdown. So, it won't be an ideal comparison.

Last month, the company's total sales, including passenger vehicles + commercial vehicles + exports combined, stood at 45,640 units, which is a growth of 25 per cent compared to 36,437 units sold in April 2021. However, compared to the 54,643 units sold in March 2022, Mahindra witnessed a MoM decline of more than 16 per cent. The company's total export sales for April 2022 stood at 2,703 units, a growth of 35 per cent compared to 2,005 units exported during the same month in 2021. However, against the 3,160 units exported in March 2022, the MoM decline was over 14 per cent.

As for the CV segment, total sales from light commercial vehicles and medium and heavy commercial vehicles stood at 17,402 units, which is a 23 per cent growth compared to the 14,104 units sold in April 2021. At the same time, compared to the 19,837 units sold in March 2022, the company saw a MoM decline of 12 per cent. Also, in April 2022, Mahindra's total three-wheeler sales, including electric three-wheelers, stood at 3,009 units, a 47 per cent growth compared to 2,043 units sold in April 2021. However, compared to 4,043 three-wheelers sold in March 2022, the company saw a MoM decline of 26 per cent.

Commenting on the company's sales performance, Veejay Nakra, President, Automotive Division, M&M Ltd., said "We continued our growth trajectory in the SUV segment with sales of 22,168 vehicles registering a growth of 22 per cent. Our Commercial Vehicles registered growth across all segments and exports were also up at 35 per cent. Demand across our products continues to be robust with strong booking numbers and pipelines. There were a number of supply chain challenges due to the lockdown in China. We continue monitoring the developments closely and will take corrective action as appropriate."
Right now, Mahindra is gearing up for a host of launches and global debuts this year. These will include the new-gen Scorpio and a range of electric vehicles from its Born Electric Vision (BEV) platform.
