Audi Q4 SUV: 10 Things We Know
Highlights
- The Audi Q4 will launch in 2019
- The production version takes inspiration from the TT Off-Road Concept
- The car will sit between the Q3 and the Q5
Audi has been looking to expand its SUV line-up and the company recently showed us the Q2, then the Q6 and finally even showcased the Q8. The company finally confirmed that it will also introduce a new model to its line-up of cars and this one will be called the Q4. There's little known about the car and there wasn't any formal announcement made either, in fact the confirmation of the Q4 came in a press release which was sent out with the title "Audi sets strategic path in challenging year 2016". It's certainly been a challenging year for the company and there's a lot that has happened, right from the dieselgate scandal to the company bidding adieu to the World Endurance Championship and so the introduction of new products as well as strategy will bring some semblance to what last year has been for Audi.
And yes, finally the company has given some attention to its SUV line-up which only had three contenders battling it out with its competitors - the Q3, Q5 and Q7. The Q4 will be something to look forward to and given that the company is bringing in a whole bunch of cars to India, we won't be surprised to see it here. Here are ten things we know about the Q4
- Up until early last year, the Q4 trademark was owned by Fiat Chrysler (FCA) in many jurisdictions. In January 2016, Audi and FCA came to agreement that would allow Audi to use both the Q2 and Q4 on future models.
- The Audi Q4 SUV is scheduled to make its global debut in 2019.
- Essentially a 5-seater SUV, the Q4 will be based on VW group's MQB platform just like the second-generation Q3.
The Audi TT Off-Road concept previewed the design of the Q4
- The Audi Q4 is expected to borrow design cues from the TT Offroad concept that was showcased at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show.
- As with the concept, the design of the production version of the Q4 is set to include a heavily curved roofline and a liftbackstyle tailgate.
The Audi Q4 is scheduled to make its debut in 2019
- The Q4 will be part of a growing line-up of style-led SUVs, spearheaded by the electric Q6 and plush Q8.
- The features that are expected in the Q4 include a 9.2 inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, gesture controls, wireless charging, a full-HD digital instrument cluster and various new connectivity platforms.
The cabin of the Q4 takes inspiration from other Audi products but will come with a ton of features
- Under the hood we expect the Audi Q4 to get the new-generation 1.5-litre petrol & diesel powertrains and updated versions of Audi's current 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder power plants.
- The new Q4 line-up will also feature a plug-in petrol-electric Q4 e-tron model with an electric-only range.
- The five-seater Q4 will compete against the likes of the upcoming BMW X2, Range Rover Evoque.
