Audi A6 Avant e-tron Concept Previews Sleek All-Electric Estate
Highlights
- Production A6 Avant e-tron expected to debut in 2023
- Concept develops 470bhp and 800Nm
- Underpinned by new jointly developed scalable EV platform
Audi has followed up 2021's A6 e-tron concept with its Avant (estate) sibling. Set to make their global debut in 2023, the two e-trons will be the first Audis to sit on a new purpose-built PPE (Premium Platform Electric) architecture, jointly developed by Porsche and Audi. The new platform supports 800V charging technology and support fast charging of up to 270kW.
The A6 Avant e-tron carries forward nearly all the styling cues first seen on last year's A6 e-tron concept with the most noticeable difference being the altered roofline compared to the almost Sportback like 2021 concept. The A6 Avant concept carries all the hallmarks of Audi's recent e-tron models replete with a prominent closed off Audi grille, sleek Digital Matrix LED headlamps, a full-length rear taillamps. The sporty front and rear bumper, low set looks, large wheels and sleek and muscular body lines add some sporting character to Audi's estate. Unlike last year's A6 concept, the Avant also features a fixed panoramic glass roof.
In typical fashion the A6 Avant e-tron concept is loaded with tech from the Digital Matrix LED headlamps that offer cinematic level projection quality – Audi claims that you can sit in your car and enjoy playing video games with the wall in front of the car as your screen. The full-length rear lightbar features OLED technology with the light-up sequence and patterns fully customisable to the driver's choosing.
The LED tech doesn't end there, Audi's fitted the car with additional LED projectors built into the sides and corners of the car. The units on the sides project welcome graphics when the doors are opened while the units on the corners of the car generate turn signal projections on the road.
The A6 Avant concept features a 100kW battery paired with two electric motors – one on each axle – to develop a combined 470bhp and 800Nm of torque. Audi claims the set-up along with the Avant's low drag coefficient will provide the estate with a WLTP range of up to 700km on a single charge. Audi claims a sub 7 second 0-100kph time for entry level models with performance derivatives achieving the same in under 4 seconds.
With the 270kW fast charging Audi claims that the Avant can be charged from 5 to 80 percent in under 25 minutes with a 10 minute charge enough to add up to 300km of range.
While the Audi A6 e-tron siblings will be the first to sit on the new PPE platform, the carmaker has said that it can be used for a variety of models and body styles including SUVs. Audi has also confirmed plans to develop EVs on the new architecture in lower segments.
