  • Arrival has partnered with Microsoft for cloud based fleet management
  • The two will use the insights to better manage their EV fleets
  • Arrival will also share insights with its partners

Arrival has been making some big moves of late. It showed off its autonomous technology recently and it also signed a deal with Uber to make cars for its driver-partners purpose-built for ride-sharing. Now it has announced that it is partnering with Microsoft to co-develop a cloud-based data platform to enable telemetry, vehicle management and data management for future electric fleets.

Arrival is a North Carolina based company with offices in London and Charlotte. It wants to break the mould of traditional production practices and it has been able to design and implement its components, software and assembly processes in a unique way enabling it to drive down cost.

It has been testing its automated driving system which doesn't need a driver to be present. It developed this technology through a program called RoboPilot. The idea of the program is to improve market knowledge, functionality and public perception of autonomous driving systems. It also doesn't use sensors but depends on a vision-based autonomous driving system.

Microsoft and Arrive will develop new models that simplify the sharing of data within a mobility and freight ecosystem. The increasing amount of data from fleets and individual vehicles will be stored in the cloud and will strive to create a standardised platform.

Arrival has partnered with the likes of Uber to develop vehicles for ride sharing.

"The resulting open data platform will use Azure and machine learning to extract insights from the data and edge computing to minimize vehicle-to-cloud data flow. By implementing a unified, canonical data standard and transparent data sharing policy, the insights drawn will enable improved vehicle designs, advanced fleet logistics and help spur advancements in mobility ecosystems and business models," said the two in a joint statement.

The idea is for the two to utilise the data and use the insights to more efficiently manage their EV fleets. The insight will be also used with partners so that they can develop their fleet solutions revealed Avinash Rugoobur, the president of Arrival.

"Arrival is bringing zero-emission mobility solutions to communities globally. Data management and analysis are crucial to bringing customized, affordable and equitable solutions to the world. With the rapid advances in technology across all areas, we need a standardized way of collecting, assimilating and sharing that data so all can share in the full benefits of what connected vehicles can bring. Working closely with Microsoft to develop and then demonstrate the huge advantages of having an open data platform for vehicles and fleets will be truly ground-breaking for companies and cities around the world," Arrival said in a statement.
