In the up to 125 cc category, Piaggio sold 13,311 scooters, up from 9,824 scooters a year ago, a growth of over 35 per cent. But the 150 cc scooters have posted growth of over 194 per cent in the same period. In fact, Piaggio is now offering a festive season package for the Aprilia SR150 worth Rs. 4,500, which includes free insurance, accessory and roadside assistance. Globally, the Aprilia SR scooter range is available from 50 cc to 300 cc engine options. In India, Piaggio decided to introduce the 150 cc version, considering it's a scooter segment which has no other competitors. The only other 150 cc scooter is also from Piaggio, the Vespa 150, which shares the same engine as the SR150.

The Aprilia SR150 was launched last year and is powered by a 154.4 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine which makes 10.4 bhp power and 11.5 Nm of peak torque. The 150 cc Vespa scooters also share the same engine, and so far there is no other scooter from any manufacturer in the 150 cc segment. With increasing demand in the scooter segment, the strategy to introduce a 150 cc scooter with sporty design seems to have paid off for Piaggio. The Aprilia SR150 is manufactured at Piaggio India's Baramati plant in Maharashtra, and the scooter is priced at Rs. 69,600 (ex-showroom Delhi). Earlier this year, Piaggio launched the Aprilia SR150 Race edition, priced at Rs. 70,288 (ex-showroom Delhi). The Aprilia SR150 Race gets different body colour and graphics.
