Andhra Pradesh Minister's Son Loses Life After Crashing Mercedes G63 AMG
Highlights
- Both occupants Nishit and Raja were 22 and 23 years of age respectively
- It's not certain if the occupants were under the influence of alcohol
- The Mercedes G63 AMG is worth Rs. 2.03 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi)
In an unfortunate incident, Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Dr. P Narayana's son Nishit Narayana, 22 and his friend Raja Ravi Varma, 23, lost their lives, after their Mercedes G63 AMG crashed in the early hours of Wednesday. The accident occurred around 3.00 am and saw the luxury SUV crash into one of the metro rail pillars in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. Both occupants were taken to the Apollo hospital but were declared dead on arrival.
Preliminary reports suggest that Nishit was trying to tackle a partially inundated road and hit the metro pillar. Hyderabad saw unseasonal rain last night, coupled with thunder and hailstorm, which snapped the power lines. Large sections of the road, it is said, were under water at the time of the incident. That said, we will be waiting for the official police report and will update this piece to ascertain the cause of the accident.
The SUV seems to have taken the hardest hit on its left side, and the images show the catastrophic damage the car has been through. It is still not clear though whether the occupants were driving under the influence of alcohol or if there was a mechanical failure that caused the accident.
The Mercedes G63 AMG is one of the most expensive SUVs in the country priced at Rs. 2.03 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). The SUV comes loaded with some of the world's best safety tech available including dual front, side and window airbags. The front occupants also get Pelvisbags. In addition, the G63 AMG comes loaded with ABS, Brake Assist, ESP, Adaptive Brake, Hill Start Assist and much more.
The SUV is powered by the monstrous 5.5-litre V8 tuned to produce 563 bhp at 5500 rpm and 760 Nm of peak torque available between 2000-5000 rpm. The G63 AMG is capable of hitting 0-100 kmph in 5.4 seconds while the top speed is limited to 210 kmph.
While most cars, especially the expensive ones will minimise the extent of physical damage to its occupants, they aren't death proof. And that's why incidents like these are a strong reminder why it is important to advocate better driving skills and enforce improved regulations.
