The earlier generation of the Jazz was only available in the petrol avatar but now Honda has also made available a diesel engine. It is the same 1.5-litre i-DTEC unit that powers other Honda diesel cars including the City, Amaze and Mobilio. The petrol engine, 1.2-litre i-VTEC, however was carried forward from the old model and received a CVT automatic gearbox with paddle-shifters.

While the petrol Jazz makes 89bhp, the diesel one produces 99. Honda claims an efficiency of 18km/l for its petrol variant while the diesel trim gets an ARAI approved 27.3km/l. The car however, faces tough competition from the segment leader, the Hyundai i20 and it will be quite an uphill task for the Jazz for Maruti Suzuki too is all set to enter this segment with the Baleno/YRA hatchback. Only time will tell how the Jazz performs when compared to its rivals.
