1. Get a detailed understanding of your vehicle's features

It may sound very basic but understanding the in and out of your vehicle's features gives you an upper hand when it comes to handling unforeseen sudden incidents. Several safety features use technology to alert the driver, such as rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, blind-spot warning, and much more. A thorough understanding of these features is sure to make you a better driver!

2. Navigating roundabouts

Roundabouts can be pretty confusing even for skilled drivers, but it becomes easier to navigate roundabouts once you know the trick. When entering a roundabout, remember to observe the traffic, then choose the lane to enter based on your desired exit. Do not ever stop in the middle of a roundabout, and do not attempt to overtake a large vehicle in roundabouts. Remember to always stay in your lane when in a roundabout. There are online tutorials to understand navigating roundabouts; refer to them to get a deeper insight.

3. Using the rear-view mirror 

Being aware of the traffic around you is very important while driving. All you have to do for this is to adjust your rearview mirror. Now, this is how you do it. Position your seat comfortably and buckle up your beat; then, adjust the mirror in such a way that you should be able to see the road behind you, with the horizon line and a little of the space above the horizon line. Make sure to make adjustments if required when you stop at the signal. Also, adjust the mirrors every time you drive. That's it! All you have to do is make sure you keep your eyes moving to look at the mirror once every 5-8 seconds. It is important to remember that there are blind spots to the mirrors too.

4. Maintain safe distance

Make sure to maintain enough distance from the vehicle at the front. Leave a distance that would take at least 4 seconds to cover should the vehicle at the front come to a sudden halt. It may seem impractical to maintain such distance during the rush hours; during such times, make sure to maintain a safe distance and drive at a safe speed.

5. Go back to the basics

Do you remember all the rules you had to follow to clear your driving test? As the year's pass, we tend to forget these basics. Make sure to brush them up and put them to practice once again. Remember to signal every time you change lanes, even in reverse, at every turn you take. Take a driving refresher course if need be.
