Renault Kwid took the country by storm upon its launch and has amassed an impressive number of bookings since then. It also offers SUV-like looks, 300-litre boot space, 180mm ground clearance, and a 4.1-inch touch-screen infotainment system among other provisions.

The Renault Kwid comes powered by an all-new 0.8-litre petrol engine that offers 54bhp and 72Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, and is claimed to return an impressive mileage of 25.17km/l that also makes it the country's most fuel-efficient petrol car.

3. Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 AMT
The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 was first launched in 2010, and it finally received an update last year, which included a myriad of both, exterior and interior changes. The current Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 gets a chrome front grille, revised head- & tail-lamps, 13-inch wheels,etc. and few more changes. Last year, it Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 also received the automated-manual transmission (AMT) that not only offers convenience at an affordable price but also fuel-efficiency.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio was one of the first small cars in India to get automated manual transmission (AMT). The carmaker claims it addressed the 3 primary issues faced with cars with automatic transmission i.e. high cost of acquisition, low fuel economy, and maintenance.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio gets a choice of 2 engine options: a 1.0-litre K-Series petrol engine and a 0.8-litre DDiS diesel engine.

5. Maruti Suzuki Baleno
While some may argue this one barely makes the cut for the 'under Rs. 5 lakh' tag, it is a very well-deserved spot for the sheer amount of offerings at an affordable price. Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the carmaker's first premium hatchback in the country, gets 2 engine options, a 1.2-litre VVT petrol and a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel.
