3 Reasons Why You Should Prefer AGS for City Driving

Having to drive in bumper to bumper traffic during peak hours is an everyday thing now. Doing that takes a fair amount of effort to drive in start-stop traffic, which also reduces the car's fuel economy.
This is something that many car-owners would relate to. The best option that emerges in such a scenario that offers comfort and convenience while driving in the city, are cars that come with Auto Gear Shift (AGS). Maruti Suzuki, India's largest car manufacturer, introduced this automatic transmission technology in 2014 in the Celerio.
Here's why AGS is a preferred choice for City Driving
Comfortable Driving
Unlike a car with a manual gearbox that requires a lot of effort, an automatic transmission car equipped with AGS is much simpler and easier to adapt to even for first-time drivers. That's because its clutch-less pedal operation makes driving easy and comfortable. AGS comes with the Creep function which allows the car to move at speeds as low as 5 km/h without the need to accelerate. This feature comes in really handy while driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic. It also has a Kick Down function that comes in handy while driving on inclines. The Kick Down function lowers the gear to provide more power when you need it.
Cars with AGS are affordable
Yes, you read it right. Gone are those days when buying an automatic car meant breaking your bank. Today, automatic cars have become more accessible than ever. This changed with Maruti Suzuki offering Auto Gear Shift (AGS) in Celerio in 2014. The Auto Gear Shift transmission is now offered by the OEM across 7 of its models, including the Alto K10, S-Presso, WagonR, Celerio, Swift, Dzire, Vitara Brezza, and Ignis. So, going for an automatic car with AGS you have a lot of choices as available at every price range.
Optimum Fuel Efficiency
Your car's fuel efficiency can take a hit in stop-go city traffic. At the same time, many drivers tend to keep one foot on the clutch for convenience, thus partially engaging the clutch. This practice is not at all advisable as this would reduce the life of the clutch plates. Maruti Suzuki's AGS, on the other hand, comes with a shift control actuator to automatically perform clutch and shift operations. This means there is no application of clutch which, in turn, leads to higher fuel efficiency and greater convenience. As a matter of fact, Maruti Suzuki cars with AGS have similar fuel efficiency figures as their respective manual counterparts!
It is a Low-Maintenance Automatic Transmission
Since AGS is a manual gearbox where gear shifts and clutch operation are electronically automated, the change in load is gradual and precise. As a result, this keeps the engine fit. Hence, AGS is an automatic transmission technology that is low on maintenance and durable in the long run.
Besides these obvious benefits, the convenience of AGS with Creep function for driving in heavy traffic, Kick Down function for driving on inclines, and the option to switch to manual when you want to take control of the gear shifts makes AGS quite a versatile automatic transmission. There's a good reason why Maruti Suzuki AGS cars have crossed the 5 lakh sales milestone!
