  • New Tiger 1200 to be available in four variants
  • Powered by a new 148 bhp in-line triple engine, new platform
  • Launch likely by second half of May 2022

Triumph Motorcycles India has teased the launch of the new Tiger 1200. Revealed globally late last year, the 2022 Tiger 1200 is new from the ground up, including a new chassis and a new, more powerful three-cylinder engine. As per Triumph India's website, India will be getting both the Tiger 1200 Rally and 1200 GT in Pro and Explorer specifications. Internationally, the Tiger 1200 is available in a standard GT spec too though, for now, it looks like that model will not be available in India. The GT spec models are designed for a more road-biased use while the Rally spec models getting more off-road capability, along with very good two-up touring capability. There is no official word on a launch date yet, though we expect the new Tiger 1200 prices to be revealed by the second half of May 2022.

The new Tiger 1200 is 25kg lighter than its predecessor due in part to the new lightweight aluminium chassis. The overall design makes the bike look slimmer than the outgoing model with the exhaust also moving closer to the body. Overall, Triumph Motorcycles seems to have made all-round efforts to make the new Tiger 1200 easier to handle and manoueuvre, and with very good all-round capability.

The new Tiger 1200 is powered by an all-new 1,160 cc, liquid-cooled in-line three-cylinder engine putting out 148 bhp at 9000 rpm and 130 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm. Triumph says that the new engine features a T-plane crank and an uneven firing order providing enhanced low-end tractability along with a more exciting mid-range.

India to get the new Tiger 1200 in GT Pro, GT Explorer, Rally Pro and Rally Explorer spec.

Coming to the suspension, all models for India will get Showa USD fork up front and rear mono-shock with semi-active damping. The difference comes down to the suspension travel with the GTs offering 200mm of travel as against the Rally's 220mm. The two lines also get different wheels with the GTs getting cast aluminium wheels – a 19-incher in the front and 18 at the rear – while the Rally variants get wire-spoke wheels – rear wheel size is unchanged though it gets a larger 21-inch front wheel. The Tiger 1200 Rally models also get a higher seat height as compared to the GTs.
