Ford is finally introducing a new-generation Ranger after a long wait of over 11 years. The T6-Generation of the Ford Ranger has had quite a successful run but had begun to look dated of late. The new-generation model though is quite an evolution over its predecessor and while the silhouette looks oh-so-familiar, there're plenty of changes under its skin. And well! Even the design has been updated which is very apparent in its face sporting the new C-Shaped LED headlights.

The wheelbase of the new Ranger has been extended by 50 mm giving more legroom to rear passengers. The front wheels of the Ranger have been pushed slightly forward to reduce its front overhangs in a bid ton improve the approach angle. Then at the front, a new hydro-formed structure has freed-up more space in the engine bay for a larger V6 turbodiesel engine. The rear track too has been widened by 50 mm increasing the load area and there is a built-in side steps behind the rear wheels to provide easier access to the bed.

It also has a sturdy plastic-moulded bedliner that Ford claims will withstand the test of time thanks to its rugged construction and there are cargo tie-down points mounted as well on steel tube rails. Similar to the smaller Maverick and bigger F-150, the middle child gets 360-degree lighting and a smart tailgate that can double as a mobile workbench with a built-in ruler.

Now on the inside, the cabin of the Ford Ranger has been completely revamped. There is the new SYNC4 infotainment system available either with a 10.1-inch touchscreen or an even bigger 12-inch unit. The new pickup is also equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster and there is a fancier, Citroen like shifter that looks very stylish. Then, there is also a redesigned drive mode selector and an electric handbrake. Ford says that the idea is to make the occupants feel as if they are in a regular car rather than a utilitarian vehicle and to uplift the appeal, there are soft-touch materials and loads to creature comforts. And the rear suspension dampers have been moved outboard of the frame rails, to promise a smoother ride.

The long features list includes matrix LED headlights, a 360-degree camera, wireless charger, a 12-volt power socket in the bed and it also supports over-the-air updates (OTA) prominently known as Ford Power-Up and gives owners the possibility to use a smartphone app to remotely control the all-around lighting. Customers will have the option to choose from two four-wheel-drive setups, either an electronic shift-on-the-fly system or the more sophisticated all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.
Under its hood, the 2.5-litre mill in the previous Ranger is now replaced by a 3.0-litre full-fat V6 oil-burner sourced from the F-150. We still don't have the power output figures but the same engine in the F-150 belts out around 247 bhp and 600 Nm of peak torque and we expect the tuning to remain unaltered even for the Ranger.
Then, there will also be a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder setup with both single turbo and twin-turbo versions. The 2.3-litre, EcoBoost petrol engine will also be on offer. Transmission options will include a six-speed manual gearbox, a six-speed automatic gearbox and a 10-speed automatic gearbox option.
