2022 Ducati Panigale V4 Unveiled With More Power
Highlights
- 1,103 cc V4 engine makes 212 bhp, 124 Nm with changes in gear ratios
- Minor changes in bodywork, more suspension travel in V4 S variant
- 2022 Ducati Panigale V4 likely to make India debut in first half of 2022
Ducati has introduced a refined and more updated version of its flagship superbike, in the 2022 Ducati Panigale V4. With a number of improvements to the new Panigale V4, Ducati says the superbike has now become easier to ride, and has become faster on the racetrack, with a minor bump in peak power. Visually, the differences are minor, but can be distinguished by the new winglet shape, which is smaller, but produces the same downforce of 30 kg at 270 kmph as before. The bellypan has two air slits on either side, as well as a series of slits on the bottom of the bellypan, which are said to aid in better heat transfer for the cooling system.

The Desmosedici Stradale engine, the 1,103 cc V4 unit, now gets a new oil circuit and large exhaust outlets, resulting in a small boost in peak power, up 1.5 bhp to 212 bhp at 13,000 rpm with peak torque coming in at 124 Nm. First, second and sixth gear have been made taller, to give more flexibility in low-speed corners while also increasing top speed. The taller gearing should also help make the power delivery a little more relaxed in second gear. The exhaust outlets have been increased in size by 18 per cent, and a new engine calibration has been introduced for 2022.

Kerb weight has been reduced to 195.5 kg, and some more changes to the bodywork have been introduced. New fuel tank shape and material are said to make the bike easier to grip during braking and turning, and a new seat makes the 2022 Panigale V4 more rider-friendly and less tiring to ride. An aftermarket Akrapovic race exhaust bumps peak horsepower number to 225 bhp, at the same time reducing weight by 5 kg.

The Panigale V4's suspension is unchanged from 2021, with a fully-adjustable 43 mm Showa Big Piston Fork. On the 2022 Ducati Panigale V4 S, new Ohlins NPX 25/30 semi-active forks have 5 mm more travel, with a total of 125 mm travel, which are said to improve front-end feel, and better stability when turning. Derived from Ohlins's racing forks, the NPX 25/30 uses a new pressurised cartridge damping system that Ducati says improves braking support, better bump absorption and increased feedback on demanding braking sections on the track. Rear suspension is unchanged, except for a 4 mm higher pivot point for the swingarm, which is said to increase the anti-squat effect under power.

The 5-inch TFT instrument console has been re-designed, with two LED shifter lights at the top of the unit, and the digital layout has been changed as well, to make information easier to read. The new MotoGP inspired set-up moves the tachometer to a horizontal scale at the very top of the screen, while selected gear takes centre stage. On the right of the screen are four coloured panels, each referring to a dedicated safety function such as ABS level, or traction control, which illuminate when they're called up.
The 2022 Ducati Panigale V4 continues to use a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) which includes cornering ABS, traction control, slide control, wheelie control, engine brake control and an up/down quickshifter. The updated 2022 Ducati Panigale V4 and Panigale V4 S will be available internationally from December 2021, with India debut expected sometime early next year.
