The 2021 Yamaha Aerox 155 looks sharp and promises motorcycle-like performance with the comfort of a scooter

The 2021 Yamaha Aerox 155 gets a likeable design and the model will certainly be different from anything else on the road. The maxi-scooter gets athletic proportions with a lean and aggressive look. The model sports twin LED headlamps with LED position lights, and an LED taillight as well. It's a proper maxi-scooter so the floorboard has been given a miss and you get the X centre motif holding the model together underneath. The scooter rides on 14-inch alloy wheels with a fat 140 section rear tyre completing the look.

The Aerox 155 competes with the Aprilia SXR 160 maxi-styled scooter that is priced at Rs. 1.26 lakh (ex-showroom)

The chassis on the new Yamaha Aerox 155 gets a trail that is 5 mm longer for enhanced straight-line stability. This allows for a more motorcycle-like feel, the company says, while retaining the scooter's handling capabilities. The scooter uses a 26 mm telescopic front suspension, while the rear gets dual shock absorbers with the mounting angle increased by 2-degrees for improved pillion comfort. Braking performance comes from a 230 mm disc brake at the front with ABS.

The 2021 Yamaha Aerox 155 uses the R15's 155 cc VVA engine but is tuned for 14.7 bhp and 13.9 Nm

Power on the new Aerox 155 comes from the familiar 155 cc engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) mated to a CVT transmission. The four-stroke, SOHC, 4-valve motor develops 14.7 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 13.9 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine makes about 4 bhp less compared to the R15 V4.0. The engine gets a new cylinder head and a compact combustion chamber to achieve a higher compression ratio, boosting combustion efficiency. The motor uses the same lightweight forged piston with DiASil coating for less friction.

The new Aerox 155 is equipped with Smart Motor Generator System, automatic start/stop system, LCD instrument console with MID unit that showcases a speedometer, RPM, VVA indicator and Y-Connect App Phone notifications, Maintenance recommendations, Last parked location, fuel consumption, malfunction notification, revs dashboard, and ranking. There's also a two-level seat, optional USB charger and 24.5 litres of under-seat storage.
