2021 Volkswagen Tiguan Facelift Local Assembly Begins In India, Launch Next Month

Volkswagen India has announced commencing the local assembly of the upcoming Tiguan facelift in the country. The updated 5-seater SUV comes to India via the CKD (Completely Knocked-Down) route and will be assembled at the company's Aurangabad facility. The same plant where the recently launched Audi Q5 is assembled. The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan facelift is one of the four SUVs that the company had planned to launch in India this year, with the other three being the all-new Taigun SUV, the 2021 T-Roc and its flagship, the Tiguan AllSpace 7-seater SUV.

Commenting on the announcement, Gurpratap Boparai, Managing Director, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India said, "We are extremely delighted to bring back the 5-seater Tiguan for the Indian market and are confident that the product will meet the unceasing demand for a sharp, elegant and robust SUV in the segment."
On the other hand, Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, "Globally, the Tiguan has proven its mettle as a robust and capable carline swiftly rising up to the rank as a global bestseller. The Tiguan is a perfect SUVW, equipped with the right amount of power, performance, and elegance. We look forward to the launch of the new 5-seater Tiguan in early December 2021."

Built on Volkswagen Group's versatile MQB platform, the 5-seater Tiguan SUV comes with updated styling more in line with the brand's current design language. It sports a slightly tweaked grille with LED Matrix headlights and LED DRLs giving a sleeker look upfront. Moreover, the front bumper has been revamped housing a triangular shaped fog lamp. The rear section gets slimmer taillights to enhance the overall appeal of the SUV.

Inside, the Volkswagen Tiguan also gets a newly designed cabin equipped with the virtual cockpit, Vienna leather seats, 30 shades of ambient lighting, illuminated scuff plates, expansive panoramic sunroof, illuminated gear knob, touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, flat-bottom steering wheel with multi-functions, driver-side electric seat with memory function, three-zone climate control, and much more.

The Volkswagen Tiguan facelift will be powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine, tuned to make 187 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. The engine will come mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission as standard and will be coupled with the 4Motion all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. Upon launch, it will compete with the likes of the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, and Citroen C5 AirCross.
