2021 Renault Kiger Subcompact SUV Launched In India; Prices Start At Rs. 5.45 Lakh

The much-anticipated Renault Kiger subcompact SUV has been officially launched in India, with prices starting at Rs. 5.45 lakh and going up to Rs. 9.55 lakh (ex-showroom, India). While deliveries for the SUV are expected to commence from early march, the company has opened the official bookings for the new Kiger, across all its showrooms in India for a token of Rs. 11,000. Based on the company's CMF-A+ platform, the Kiger shares its underpinnings with both, the Renault Triber MPV, and the Nissan Magnite subcompact SUV. The new Kiger will be offered in four variants, namely - RXE, RXL, RXT and the top-spec RXZ. The RXZ and RXT variants get manual transmission along with AMT and CVT options, while the RXL only includes an AMT option. Renault will sell models with dual-tone colours at an additional cost of Rs. 17,000, across the range.

In comparison, the prices of the Nissan Magnite, the Kiger's sibling, start at Rs. 5.49 lakh and go up to Rs. 9.49 lakh, offering almost similar price range as the Renault Kiger.

The new Renault Kiger will be offered in two petrol engines and three transmission choices. This includes the 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated Energy petrol engine that already powers the Triber MPV, and it's tuned to make 71 bhp and 96 Nm of peak torque. This engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit. The Kiger will also get the new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that was introduced with the Nissan Magnite. The motor is tuned to make 98 bhp and 160 Nm of peak torque and comes mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic transmission.

Visually, the 2021 Renault Kiger looks like an upscaled version of the Kwid hatchback
In terms of design and styling, the new Renault Kiger appears to have borrowed its visual cues from the company's popular hatchback, Kwid. Upfront, the SUV comes with a sculpted bonnet, with a sleek twin slat grille finished in chrome, flanked by LED daytime running lamps. Below we have the muscular bumper that houses the main three-port headlight unit in a black housing. The top-end model will get what Renault calls, tri-octa LED pure vision headlamps. The SUV also gets underbody, wheel arch and side cladding to accentuate its rugged looks.

In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 3,991 mm in length, 1,750 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height
The profile features a set of dual-tone alloy wheels, silver roof rails, and ORVMs with integrated turn signal lights. At the rear, the car features a stylish looking spoiler with high-mounted LED stop lamp, along with C-shaped LED taillamps, a sculpted tailgate with centrally positioned 'Kiger' logo, and a beefy plastic cladded rear bumper with faux silver skid plate. The Kiger is offered in six colour options - Caspian Blue, Radiant Red, Moonlight Grey, Mahogany Brown, Ice Cool White, and Planet Grey. In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 3,991 mm in length, 1,750 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height. The Kiger has a wheelbase of 2,500 mm and a ground clearance of 205 mm.
The Renault Kiger will come with multiple driving modes - Eco, Normal and Sport
As for the cabin, the new Renault Kiger will come with an 8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment display, a 7-inch digital instrument console, climate control, engine start-stop, steering mounted controls, Arkamays 3D sound system, wireless charging, rear AC vents with a 12-volt charging slot, dual-tone paint scheme, fabric upholstery and more. The Kiger also gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The cabin also comes with a range of storage options that add up to offer 29.1-litre, this includes the storage in the centre control that alone stands at 9.1-litre. The boot space with all the seats in an upright position is 405 litre. The Kiger also comes with accessory pack with a wireless phone charger and air purifier.
In India, the Renault Kiger will compete against Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and its cousin, Nissan Magnite.
