2018 Honda PCX125 Unveiled For Europe
Highlights
- 2018 Honda PCX125 gets updated styling, more features
- The 125 cc engine now makes more power at 12 bhp
- New LCD instrument panel, ABS, new chassis and more storage
Honda has revealed the updated PCX125 scooter for 2018, with natural new contours interspersed among the traditional PCX flowing design lines. Also new is a steel duplex cradle frame, new wheels and tyres and an upgraded rear suspension. The PCX125 now gets ABS, and the engine makes more peak power while said to deliver "outstanding fuel efficiency", according to a release from Honda. Underseat storage has been increased, the scooter gets LED headlights and taillights and a LCD instrument console, with a blue backlit design.
The 125 cc, SOHC, liquid-cooled engine now makes more power - 12 bhp at 8,500 rpm, with peak torque of 11.8 Nm at 5,000 rpm. The better peak power is achieved with a larger airbox, larger throttle body and updated exhaust internals. Also updated are the pulley wheels of the continuously variable transmission (CVT), which are larger and feature revised profiles expanding the range of gear ratios.
According to Honda, this change has resulted in stronger acceleration in the mid- and high revs. Fuel efficiency is a claimed 47.6 kmpl, and the scooter also comes with selectable idling stop mechanism, which automatically stops the engine running after three seconds at idle and re-starts it instantly with a twist of the throttle. Braking is handled by a 220 mm hydraulic disc gripped by a two-piston caliper with ABS on the front wheel, and a 130 mm drum at the rear.
The Honda PCX125 has sold more than 1,40,000 units in Europe since 2010, and with the updates for 2018, Honda will hope to increase upon the success of this 125 cc maxi-scooter. Practicality has been one of the PCX125's biggest strengths, and for 2018, underseat storage has been increased to 28 litres, big enough to store a full-face helmet with room to store a few more knick knacks.
The 2018 Honda PCX 125 will be available in four colour options - pearl cool white, pearl nightstar black, matt carbonium grey metallic, and pearl splendour red. There's no word on Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) planning to launch the PCX125 in India, but with Suzuki getting ready to launch the Burgman Street 125 soon, the entry-level maxi-scooter space will certainly open up new possibilities in the world's largest two-wheeler market.
