2016 Toyota Fortuner Shows Off-Roading Ability in Video

The most anticipated of launches next year from the Toyota stable is the Fortuner and the SUV is all about taking things to a new level. We've already told you, that the company has brought the car to India for R&D we might get a glimpse of it at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo.

The company has, however, released a video which shows the Fortuner roughing it out. The Fortuner has gotten sleeker and the front boasts of head-lamps that look pretty much like the ones on the Camry. Then, there is the V-shaped twin-slat grille with a whole lot of chrome. The chin of the front bumper and the fog-lamp surrounds too come with a dash of chrome, while day time running LEDs are also a part of the package.

The side profile of the new Fortuner reveals a bit more muscle too with big wheel arches and turn indicators on the ORVMs. The 2016 Fortuner is based on Toyota's Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) platform that also underpins the Hilux pick-up truck and the Innova. It will continue to employ the ladder frame chassis. Toyota is planning big changes for the interior of the car too, which means that it will be comparatively more plush and will get more room this time.

We can see that the Fortuner has been tested extensively to handle all kinds of terrains and special attention has been given to pitch and yaw especially because it's an off-roader. From the video one can determine that though Toyota has given it a sleeker look, there is no dispensing the SUVs capabilities.

As far as engines go, there will be changes in that department too; the next-gen Fortuner will be equipped with the new GD series of engines. Two engines - the 2.4-litre turbo-diesel (148bhp) and the 2.8-litre (175 bhp) - will replace the current 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre versions. Toyota will employ these engines for the next-generation Innova too. In terms of competition, the Fortuner will rival the Hyundai Santa Fe, the new Ford Endeavour, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and the Chevrolet TrailBlazer. We expect it to be priced between 22 lakh - 25 lakh.
