Highlights

Having unveiled it at the Auto Expo last month, Suzuki Motorcycle and Scooter India has officially launched the new and upgraded 2016 Access in the country with prices starting at Rs. 53,887 (ex-showroom Delhi). With the arrival of competition in the 125cc segment, the Access had started losing its sheen and the latest update ensures the model will be able to pose as a threat more effectively against the Honda Activa 125 and the likes in the segment.

On the outset, the 2016 Suzuki Access gets a new curvy and retro-themed styling, more on the lines of the Piaggio Vespa and Yamaha Fascino. The scooter gets a new chrome treated headlamp along with a 3D logo. The side panels have been revised and look refreshed, whereas there is now a wraparound LED tail lamp and clear lens indicators. Other cosmetic upgrades include the new front apron, 12-inch front wheel, and a new instrument panel that gets a part analog and part digital display.

Coming to dimensions, the new Suzuki Access 125 measures 1870mm in length, 655mm in width, 1160mm in height and has a wheelbase measuring 1265mm. The ground clearance stands at 160mm and the kerb weight is a light 102 kg. Mechanically, the new Access 125 gets an updated front telescopic suspension setup for improved comfort, while the twin shocks continue to do duty at the rear. The scooter also gets new alloy wheels to complete the look, while braking performance comes from drum brakes at the front and rear, with the front disc brake available as optional.

Other features include largest under seat storage - the best-in-class now at 21-litres, longest seat in the segment, larger floorboard and front pocket. The scooter also gets an optional DC socket and the Suzuki Easy Start System. The instrument cluster has been upgraded on the 2016 edition and comes with a digital display, two trip meters and a service reminder.

The powertrain remains identical on the 2016 Suzuki Access with the same 125cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine serving purpose. The motor is tuned to produce 8bhp of power at 7000rpm and 10.2Nm of torque at 5000rpm, while mated to an automatic transmission. Technologically, it largely remains the same but gets Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP)that reduces friction and is said to offer better fuel economy - Suzuki claims a mileage of 64Km/l. The scooter is available in four colour options.

The new Access 125 will be offered in two variants - a standard drum brake version that was launched today, and a disk brake variant - which will arrive in a few of months. The Suzuki Access was quite a popular offering in the 125cc segment when it started off, but the competition has just been getting better with their offerings. With the latest update, the Japanese giant is aiming to reclaim its lost market share by making the scooter more inclined towards the younger audience. Bookings of the Suzuki Access 125 commence at dealerships from today, while deliveries will start in a few days.
