2016 Geneva Motor Show: Volkswagen Showcases T-Cross Concept

Volkswagen says that the concept previews a new family of Polo-sized crossovers that among others will include a version with a retractable fabric roof. If you take a look at the way the T-Cross has been styled, you will be reminded of the design language seen in the latest Tiguan but yes, there are certain elements that are unique to the T-Cross.

We notice that there is a very wide front grille which is flanked by narrow head lamps and very typical of a concept comes with large LED rings around the fog lights. The side profile reveals a double character line, while the 19-inch alloy wheels give it a bit of character and the spiral design of the alloys, make it a bit more prominent.
The rear is a bit flamboyant too because of the sharp LED tail lamps. There is 300 litres of cargo space on offer too and yes, since it's a cabriolet the T-Cross comes with a black fabric soft top. The T-Cross comes with a sandblasted finish for the visible aluminium surfaces like the windshield frame, side sills, and underbody protection.
If you take a look at the dimensions of the car, the VW T-Cross Breeze concept is 4133mm long (which means it's longer than the CrossPolo), while the wheelbase is 2565mm that does justice to a four-seater layout in the concept. The production version of the car will be spacious and a five seater. The T-Cross is 1798 mm wide and 1563 mm tall. VW has not provided the ground clearance figure as of yet and we are keen to know what it will be.

Inside, the cabin is a familiar one as we've seen it on the BUDD-e concept in January this year. There is digital instrument cluster which the folks at VW call 'Active Info Display', which is customizable. Entertainment duties are handled by a 300-watt Beats Audio sound system with a subwoofer integrated in the center console.
Of course, we want to know what the engine is like and the T-Cross Breeze concept gets a small 1.0-litre turbocharged unit capable of churning out 110bhp. The engine develops 175Nm of torque and all the power is channelled through a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission which enables the crossover to return 5 litres / 100 km. According to the folks at Volkswagen, the T-Cross will be able to run 800 km on a full tank.

The T-Cross is light too as it weighs in at 1250kg which is why it can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 10.3 seconds before topping out at 188 km/h. Well, Volkswagen isn't stopping there as we'll also see a Golf-sized crossover which will follow the footsteps of the T-Roc concept. Yes, we expect to see the production version of the T-Cross to come India and this will be part of the company's strategy for the country. However, we can't put our finger on the timeline but we can hope to see it at the 2018 Auto Expo.
