2016 Chevrolet Camaro Unveiled
Highlights
When it comes to the design of the Camaro, Chevrolet has taken an evolutionary route and now there are significant changes made to the body of the car. The Camaro is now aerodynamically optimized as it has spent close to 350 hours in the wind tunnel. That's not all, the muscle car has also been toned down in terms of weight and is now 90kg lighter than its predecessor.
It's lighter thanks to the extensive use of aluminum and according to the car manufacturer, the car's structural rigidity has been boosted by 28%. Chevrolet says that 70% of the architectural components have been developed specifically for the new Camaro and this shows the effort that has gone into making the car.

The standard version of the car comes with halogen projector head and tail lamps, but for variants like the RS and the SS, Chevrolet offers HID projector headlamps with LED DRLs. The new-gen Camaro will also benefit from a five-link independent rear suspension while the SS version will see the introduction of the Magnetic Ride Control.
There are multiple changes to the inside of the car as well and the cabin comes with a more driver-focused layout. There is an 8-inch HD instrument cluster and another 8-inch display with the MyLink infotainment system at the center of the instrument panel. There is also a Driver Mode Selector which helps provide access to several modes: Snow/Ice, Tour, Sport and Track but this feature is available on the SS version only.

In terms of engines, there are three on offer. The sixth-gen comes with a newly developed four-cylinder, 2.0-litre turbo engine which makes 275 bhp and develops 400 Nm of torque. 0-100km/h is done in close to 6 seconds.
Then there is the 3.6-litre V6 engine which sees an increase in power and this number goes up to 335 bhp. The engine comes mated to a six-speed manual gearbox or an optional new 8-speed Hydra-Matic 8L45 paddle-shift automatic gearbox.
Finally, it's the turn of the mighty Camaro SS and which comes with a 6.2-litre V8 capable of 455bhp and a hefty 617Nm of torque. The wheels are powered through a six-speed manual transmission equipped with Active Rev Match technology or an optional 8-speed Hydra-Matic 8L90 paddle-shift automatic transmission.
We'll see Ford bring the Mustang to India this year and we can't wait for it to come here. Will Chevrolet up the ante and bring the sixth-generation of the Camaro here too? Only time will tell.
