Highlights

Volkswagen is all set to launch the 2015 Jetta in India on the 17th of February. It was just a couple of months ago that the company showcased the car at the New York Motorshow and it had all intentions of bringing it to India. The facelift of the Jetta is not just about bringing in cosmetic changes but it also has to do with its heart.  We list down the changes made to the 2015 Jetta.

    Design

Not a lot has changed and the Jetta still feels very familiar. But Volkswagen have residned the front bumper and there is a new grille too which is quite reminiscent of the Passat which was showcased at the 2014 Paris Motorshow. The rear profile of the car too sees minor tweaks and the tail lamps take inspiration from the Audis. There are no noticeable changes to side profile of the car and it retains the essence  of the outgoing Jetta. The alloys, however, are brand new and so are the day-time running LEDs and the bi-xenon headlamps.

    Interiors

Inside is a familiar sight, however, you cannot help but notice the flat-bottom steering wheel and it reminds you of the new Polo and Vento. We will also see an upgraded infotainment system and the cabin gets a refreshing look and we think there will be an option between all black and dual-tone interiors.

    Engine

This is probably the biggest change in the car and the most important upgrade too. Under the hood the Jetta will get the upgraded version of the 2.0-litre TDI diesel powertrain and this means there is a bump in power. The additional 10bhp takes the tally to 150bhp and torque at hand will be 320Nm, which is a brillliant deal, but will the extra power be included for India? We'll know soon. Transmission duties will be still handled by the six-speed manual or the six-speed DSG. According to the people at VW, the current engine comes with improved fuel economy in the bracket of 8% and that is huge for a car that sits in the premium sedan segment.

The Jetta will go up against competitors like the Toyota Corolla Altis, the Skoda Octavia and the Hyundai Elantra and will be extremely price competitive. The top-end variant of the Jetta will undercut the 20 lakh mark but all-eyes on VW now.
