2014 Malaysian Grand Prix: Mercedes continues domination in FP2 but this time Rosberg rules the time charts
Highlights
Mercedes dominated the Free Practice 2 session of the Malaysian Grand Prix, as Nico Rosberg set the fastest lap by putting in 1:39.909s. Rosberg, infact, even bettered the time set by team mate Hamilton in FP1.
Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen continued his strong form in the second session today and put in a time of 1:39.944s. But it was good to see Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel get a piece of the action as well as after putting in 30 laps of the Sepang circuit he managed to come in third fastest ahead of Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton.
Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa were also within two-tenths of a second of Rosberg which put them in 5th and 6th place. As the temperature soared to 34 degrees Celsius, the track temperature exceeded 50 and some drivers found that the tyres were suffering because of this severe heat.
Romain Grosjean's woes continued in the second session as well and he only managed to get in 14 laps before there was a gearbox problem which ended his day. Pastor Maldonaldo failed to set a time at all, as did Kamui Kobayashi in the Caterham.
With the third Free Practice session scheduled for tomorrow along with the Qualifying rounds, it will be interesting to see if Mercedes can continue its domination for another day.
