2014 Beijing Motorshow: Audi showcases the TT Off-road Concept
Highlights
Audi has unveiled the TT offroad concept at the Beijing Motor Show and this gives a glimpse into the company's intentions to bring out a crossover based on the TT.
The people at Audi describe the concept as blending the "sportiness of a coupe with the lifestyle and utility of a compact SUV" but if you look closely it clearly just is a TT on stilts. The TT offroad concept gets a 2.0-litre TFSI, 4-cylinder hybrid powertrain which churns out a hefty 290bhp and 380 Nm of torque.
The petrol engine works together with two electric motors which deliver an additional 113bhp and 270 Nm torques. Both the powers combines, the TT offroad concept punches out 405bhp and a massive 650Nm torque.
All that power allows the TT offroad concept to reach from 0-100km/h in 5.2 seconds and gives it a top speed of 250km/h. It can reach a top speed of 130 km/h when relying solely on electric power.
Audi says the vehicle has a 54:46 weight distribution. With the 12 kWh battery it can travel in all-electric mode for up to 50 kms while as a hybrid it will do up to 880 kms.
It does resemble the Q3 in more ways than one but is 8cm lower than it. The TT-inspired and derived interiors seat upto four people on slim sport seats and in the trunk there's a custom box with a 1:8 scale RC car along with space for tools and battery.
Exciting times lie ahead for Audi and we can't wait to see the production ready crossover soon.
