- Your new car can serve you for a long time if you handle it well.
- The car engine needs to be used properly in the first month.
- Read on to find things you should avoid doing with a new car.
Taking good care of your new car is absolutely necessary if you wish to ensure a long life for it. That being said, there are a few things that you are advised to avoid doing with your brand new car for the same reason. Let us tell you what they are.
Don't use cruise control

The best thing for a new engine is running at various RPMs. When you engage your car's cruise control feature, the RPM doesn't change much and this doesn't allow the new engine to open up in the way that it should.
Don't use premium petrol
Premium petrol has additives inside that could cause harm to the engine. That's the reason why car manufacturers don't recommend premium petrol not only for new cars but also for those that have been used a lot.
Don't get stuck in traffic jams

Make sure to avoid rides where you might encounter traffic jams during the initial stages of driving your new car. Idling is something that causes stress to the engine and can have a negative effect on its workings.
Don't change the oil
Some people believe that frequently changing the lubricant or engine oil can benefit the engine. That's not true at all. While it doesn't do any good to the engine, it also doesn't harm it in any way. It's just that such a practice is a waste of time and money.
Don't forget to read the manual

The manual will make you completely aware of every little detail of your car that you can take advantage of. Don't hesitate to spend a few hours reading it as it will give you tremendous confidence while driving the car.
Don't slam the brakes
Slamming the brakes too hard on a brand new car is bad news for its brake pads. Allow them to degrade in a slow and subtle manner by hitting the brakes slowly.
Don't floor the accelerator
Opening up the throttle of your car is the worst thing you can do to it. If you want your engine to have a good and long life, avoid flooring the accelerator when it's new.
Avoid short runs

To put it simply, long rides are much better for your engine's health than short rides. So, avoid taking your car out for running short errands during the breaking in period.
Don't overload the car
The car's engine is slightly delicate when new. Hence it is advisable to not have too many people or too much luggage in your car during its first few runs so as not to stress the engine too much.
Don't run on low fuel

Running on low fuel can actually damage the car's health, so make sure to always keep an eye on the fuel gauge.
Don't ignore the RPM limit
Stick to the RPM limit prescribed by the user manual of your car. Usually, for petrol cars, it is below 3,000RPM for the first 1000kms.
Don't drive too fast
Keep your speed low during the first few days that you drive your new car and also avoid unnecessary braking. This will save your new tyres from losing their thin layer of lubricant that's meant for stopping mould from developing in the rubber.
