Indian New Chieftain

As part of the 2023 lineup of the Indian Motorcycle Company, the new upgraded model of the Indian Chieftain bike is set to release in July 2023. Known for its cruiser bikes, the company will be releasing its new and updated lineup this year.

The Chieftain will come in two variants: Chieftain Dark Horse and Chieftain Limited. Both variants will come in different colour schemes. The Dark Horse will be available in Black Smoke, Ruby Smoke, Sagebrush Smoke, and Copper Smoke, while the Chieftain will be available in only two colours; Black Metallic and Silver Quartz Metallic. The bikes are expected to carry a sticker price between the price range of Rs 33 lakh to 34 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Chieftain is equipped with the 1,890 cc ThunderStroke 116 engine that produces a hefty power of 85.9bhp at 4,240 rpm and a maximum torque of 168 Nm at 2,800 rpm. The engine is a V-twin air-cooled engine, mated with a 6-speed gearbox. The engine has a bore of 101 mm and a stroke of 113 mm, with a compression ratio of 9.5:1. The Indian Chieftain will also come compliant with the latest BS6 emission standards.

The bike will have both analogue and digital instrument consoles. Features like a push button power windshield, 7-inch touchscreen powered by RIDE COMMAND with Apple CarPlay integration, Vinyl Rogue seat, Tyre Pressure Monitoring, keyless ignition, hard saddlebags, selectable ride modes, rear cylinder deactivation, cruise control, 100 Watt Audio System with AM/FM, Bluetooth, USB, Smartphone compatible input, and a 12V charging port as standard.
The Indian Chieftain comes with a telescopic front suspension with a travel of 119 mm and a single shock rear suspension with air adjustment with a travel of 114 mm. The braking system comprises dual 300 mm floating rotors with a 4-piston calliper at the front and a single 300 mm floating rotor with a 2-piston calliper at the rear. The bike features Metzeler Cruise Tec tyres and also comes with 10-spoke contrast-cut wheels. The kerb weight of the bike is 328 kg with a massive 20.8-litre fuel tank. The saddle height is as low as 650 mm making it easy for the rider to swing a leg over.

The bike will compete head-to-head with Honda Gold Wing, BMW K 1600 GTL, BMW K 1600 Grand America and the Harley Davidson Street Glide Special in the Indian market.
