What's New?

The new Aprilia SR 150 was unveiled in the Indian market at the Auto Expo 2016. The two-seater scooter is oriented towards the mass market. Aprilia has an aggressive and sporty design language that makes it stand out amidst the crowd. The scooter comes with a 3-valve, four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 10.25 bhp @ 6,750 rpm and a peak torque of 11.4 Nm @ 5,000 rpm. The Aprilia SR 150 has the best hardware because of the combination of suspension unit, hydraulic coil spring, and hydraulic telescopic forks.

The scooter has an embedded headlight in the front and turn indicators. The engine displacement of the scooter is 154.8 cc with a kerb weight of 122 kg. The Aprilia SR 150 is available in five colours- Red and green, Black, Red and white, Blue & Matte Black. The mileage offered by the scooter varies between 47-53.4 Kmpl.

The variants offered by the Aprilia SR 150 include the SR 150 STD, SR 150 Carbon Special Edition, and SR 150 Race. Some of the standard features that are available for every variant of the Aprilia SR 150 are the analogue speedometer, fuel gauge, pillion seat and grab rail. icon

Verdict

The Aprilia SR 150 is the slightly smaller sibling to the SR 160 and offers a similar sporty, exciting package in the scooter segment. It gets entertaining performance and good dynamics, but the lack of practicality, storage space and low fuel efficiency will not make it appeal to a lot of cost-conscious scooter buyers in India.

Aprilia SR 150

Have you been considering the Aprilia SR 150? In case the answer is yes, then here is a detailed look into this scooter which does pack quite a punch in its segment and at its price point. Here’s learning more about its features and design elements.

How is the design?

The Aprilia SR 150 is a normal scooter; however it is not like other scooters in any way. The design of the scooter is more aggressive and angular, as is customary for classic scooters inspired by European design. The front apron of the SR 150 is pointed and sleek, and it features dual headlamps in the middle of the design. It has a one-of-a-kind personality thanks to the arrangement of the lens blinkers, the design of the apron, and the configuration of the front headlamps. A short fender is added to the 14-inch alloy wheels of the scooter, which contributes to the increased sportiness of the vehicle. The side body panels of the SR 150 have an elevated appearance, which contributes to the vehicle's aerodynamic profile. There is a hook for your luggage as well as a storage space under the seat that can hold up to 18 liters of your belongings. The scooter is not only attractive to look at, but it also serves a number of practical purposes. The lengthened seat is spacious enough to accommodate two persons sitting together in complete ease. The pillion grab rails and LED tail lamp that come standard on the SR 150 are also nice touches. The scooter gets perfect ratings for both its design and the fact that it is distinctive.

The Aprilia SR150 is designed to look aggressive, and it does so in a way that immediately grabs your attention. The twin headlights, which are mounted on the front apron and are surrounded by red and black graphics, are a large contributor to the vehicle's menacing appearance. Moving on, it has a seat that is reddish-black in colour and a short tail that is elevated slightly above its base. In the front, it has large telescopic forks measuring 32 millimeters, and both the back and the front have large wheels measuring 14 inches. Aprilia's footboard is neither overly wide nor excessively long, but the bike still manages to maintain its sporty character despite these shortcomings. Steel was used in the construction of the frame of the brand-new Aprilia SR 150, which was done so with the intention of improving safety. The chair is elevated to a significant degree, which may provide difficulties for riders of a more petite stature. If the seat had been padded with more plush material, passengers could have ridden for longer periods of time without experiencing discomfort.

How is the performance?

The products that Aprilia produces are focused on their level of performance. Because of this, the SR 150 is one of the greatest scooters in its class and it comes equipped with a robust engine. The SR 150 has a power delivery that is both remarkable and lightning fast. The scooter is also convenient for one's financial situation. The same 154.8cc, 4-stroke, 3-valve, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that is found in the Vespa 150 is used to power the sporty Aprilia SR150. This engine is used to power the scooter. This engine has the capability of producing a maximum power output of 10.4 Bhp at an rpm of 6750, and it has a maximum torque output of 11.4 Nm when operating at an rpm of 5000. You'll get the impression that the SR150 is easy to ride thanks to its brisk acceleration, particularly when you go higher in the rev range. While riding through rural areas on country roads, you won't encounter as much heavy traffic, so it's a good opportunity to pass it. Another aspect of the SR150 that may come as a surprise to you is the fact that it has a respectable amount of grunt in the middle of its rev range and the ability to pull beyond 70 kilometers per hour, an area in which the majority of scooters simply run out of steam. The SR150 will be one of the only scooters in its class that is capable of reaching speeds greater than 100 kilometers per hour (kmph) on the speedometer. The mileage that you get out of an Aprilia SR 150 is entirely determined by the way you ride it. For instance, the manufacturer estimates that you will get 38 km/l out of it if you give it more throttle than normal, but if you take it easy, you should get between 40 and 45 km/l out of it. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's speak about the performance of the engine, which is quite punchy and has a very strong throttle response. While the rear suspension setup is more comfortable and forgiving, the front suspension setup is more rigid. In a nutshell, the ideal balance between attractiveness and dangerousness.

How does the motorbike ride?

This Aprilia motorcycle is a combination of a scooter and a motorcycle in one convenient package. It features wheels measuring 14 inches and has very good handling. In addition to this, the brake bite is superb, providing you with excellent input. We have, however, already discussed its sportiness and the power output of its engine. You won't be let down by the agile Aprilia SR 150 when it comes to making sharp turns and leaning into corners. This is also owing to the fact that it has 14-inch wheels and sticky tyres, which make it a phenomenal handler. You would feel a little bit of stiffness on the suspension setup, but this would support cornering and allow you good ground clearance, whereas other scooters' suspension setups would only scratch the stand or the exhaust if you leant too much.

When it comes to the braking system, the Aprilia SR 150 has a front disc brake with a diameter of 220 millimeters and a rear drum brake with a diameter of 140 millimeters. Forks with a diameter of 32 millimeters and a hydraulic shock absorber are responsible for the suspension chores at the back, while telescopic forks with the same diameter are located up front.

How comfortable the motorbike is?

The appearance of carbon fibre on a white background is featured in the design of the clocks, which contributes to the sporty quality of the overall appearance. The instrument panel is designed in the form of a pair of pods, each of which contains an analogue display for one of the following: the speedometer, the odometer, and the fuel gauge respectively.

The Aprilia SR 150 is equipped with quality hardware that can keep up with the performance of the scooter. Because they are the largest in their category, the 14-inch alloy wheels contribute significantly to the superb handling. They have the meatiest tyres possible to back them up, which contributes to their excellent grip. In addition to that, its front disc brake, which measures 220 millimeters in diameter, is the largest in the industry. Braking performance is satisfactory thanks to the rear brake with 140 millimetre rotors. The responsiveness and overall performance of the engine are two indicators that the scooter has a sporting character. The ride quality, on the other hand, is slightly on the hard side, which highlights the vehicle's credentials as a sports car. The scooter falls short in both the amount of floorboard space it provides and the quality of its seat. The SR 150 was never intended to be very comfortable, and it never tried to be. When viewed from the perspective of someone who is shorter, the space may not appear to be in short supply; yet, a rider who is taller might get the impression otherwise. The space available for sitting is limited, and the overall ride quality is on the rougher end of the spectrum. However, thanks to its pre-load adjustable rear shocks, it is still able to manage bumps and potholes in a significantly better manner than its competitors. The level of comfort is inconsistent across the board.

How’s the Tech?

The Aprilia SR 150 features an instrument cluster that is semi-digital and a single-channel ABS as standard equipment. The instrument console features a clock, an odometer, a fuel gauge, and an analogue speedometer in addition to a computer that can track two separate trips. Orange is used for the backlighting on the unit in the sporty layout. There is a USB charger located in the storage compartment underneath the seat. The Aprilia Connect App provides features such as navigation, vehicle tracing, mobile connectivity, and an emergency button.

All in all, the Aprilia SR 150 is a great option if you’re looking for a premium commuter motorcycle that offers good performance and features.

How’s the mileage of the motorbike?

The ARAI estimates that the typical mileage for the SR 150 is 40.7 kilometers per liter. It gets better mileage than 8 percent of all scooters on the market today. This scooter has a gasoline tank that can hold 6.5 liters of petrol.

Is the motorbike good value for Money?

It was at the 2016 Auto Expo in India where the new Aprilia SR 150 first appeared. Two-seater scooters like this one are designed with the masses in mind. Aprilia is distinguished from the competition by its aggressive and sporty aesthetic language. The Aprilia SR 150 is equipped with superior hardware, including a suspension unit, hydraulic coil spring, and hydraulic telescopic forks.

Both a headlight and indicators for turning are built into the front of the scooter. The scooter has a kerb weight of 122 kg and an engine displacement of 154.8 cc. The Aprilia SR 150 comes in five distinct hues: red and green, black, red and white, blue, and matte black. Three Aprilia SR 150 models—the SR 150 STD, the SR 150 Carbon Special Edition, and the SR 150 Race—are available. An analogue speedometer, fuel gauge, pillion seat, and grab rail are among the standard features found on every Aprilia SR 150 model. In addition to the pass light, single-channel ABS, twin-pod headlights, alloy wheels, and front disc brake, there are numerous other standard features. In terms of style and originality, the scooter scores big.

The Aprilia SR 150 is a great scooter for the money. It's very well made and has a lot of features that make it a great value buy. The only downside is that it's not as fast as some would like.

How is the after sales service?

The Aprilia SR 150 comes with great after sales service. The company has a wide network of dealers and service stations across the country which makes it very easy for the customers to get their bikes serviced. The company also has a toll-free number and a website where customers can easily get in touch with the customer care executives to resolve any queries or issues. Service intervals are recommended after every 2,000-5,000 kilometres.

Which Scooters Compete in this Segment?

Even though the new Aprilia SR150 will be the only scooter of its sort to be sold in India, it may face competition from other brands in terms of the features it offers and the sporty appearance it adopts. As was mentioned before, the SR150 does not have much competition on the face of it; yet, there are a few premium scooters that give competitions to the Italian beauty that is called the Aprilia SR150. These include the Honda Grazia, the TVS Ntorq 125, the Suzuki Burgman Street 125, the Suzuki Access 125, and the brand-new Yamaha Ray-ZR, amongst others.

Verdict (Is it Value for Money?)

The instrument cluster that comes standard on the Aprilia SR 150 displays the odometer in addition to the time, the current fuel level, and two trip meters. In addition, the USB charger comes with the customary storage space located in the seat back. The Aprilia Connect app comes standard on the SR 150 and includes a number of useful features such as mobile connectivity, navigation, vehicle tracking, and an emergency button. When taking into account the sleek design, convenient features, and robust engine, the price is at a level that is comparable to other products in its category. Because of this, the scooter presents potential buyers with a favourable value proposition. It is definitely worth adding to any garage!
