Lewis Hamilton over the last couple of years has resorted to activism for all kinds of things be it for the upliftment of African Americans, climate change and global warming and now he has said that he is deeply upset with the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan post the US forces leaving the country triggering a takeover by the medieval Taliban forces.
"I am devastated by what is happening in the world," wrote the 7-time world champion in a social media post.
"I've been away from my phone and the world in general for a few days to regenerate, I'm really upset. I know I'm late, but I'd like to share with you some opportunities to support those who are suffering and need help right now," he posted.
Hamilton took the lead of the 2021 F1 world championship after coming P2 in a chaotic race which saw the unfancied Alpine of Esteban Ocon win the race and shock retirements of Lando Norris, Sergio Perez, Charles Leclerc and Lance Stroll thanks to a first lap incident in wet conditions by a braking error by Hamilton's teammate Valtteri Bottas which also resulted in his retirement.
Hamilton's main rival the highly fancied Max Verstappen didn't retire from the race but the commotion caused his car to be damaged heavily and he hobbled to a P9. In the last two races the Red Bull of Verstappen took home just two points while Hamilton took more than 40 points.
