Ducati Registers Record Sales in 2015
Highlights
Ducati Motor Holding had a very successful year in 2015; the sales figures are out to confirm it. The Bologna based motorcycle manufacturer sold 54,800 motorcycles in the calendar year 2015 registering a 22% increase over the numbers achieved in 2014. This means selling 9,683 units more in 2015 than what it sold in the previous year.
Scrambler, as expected, was the highest selling Ducati worldwide. The most-affordable Ducati in the market at present witnessed a total sales figure of over 16,000 units. After its launch, the Scrambler also became the first Ducati ever to make it to the top 10 bestselling motorcycles worldwide.
Commenting on the record sales, Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding, said "The record sales of 2015 are the result of our company's courage and skill. Ducati closes 2015 with record volumes and also a substantial growth of 22% over 2014. During the year Ducati not only launched successful new motorcycles, but also a new brand, Ducati Scrambler, which immediately won global acclaim with over 16,000 sales worldwide."
The sales in the American market rose by 14%, and the domestic market - Italian - grew by 53%. It means that America still remains the biggest market for Ducati followed by Italy - which accounts for 12% of Ducati's overall sales. In Asia, the Chinese market grew by 46%. Currently, Ducati sells its motorcycles through 700 dealerships in 90 countries.
However, the iconic Monster 821 didn't do well in the previous year. The one time bestselling Ducati, the Monster 821, found just 6,500 buyers worldwide in 2015. Multistrada 1200 did outnumber the Monster 821 by selling 8,000 units.
Such was the craze for Scrambler that the nakeds' (Monster, Streetfighter and Diavel) sales dropped by 24% in the first three quarters of 2015 over the same period of 2014. Dual-sports (Hypermotard, Hyperstrada and Multistrada) witnessed a growth of 5%.
We don't know if the other models are feeling neglected by the Ducati management, as it is focussing primarily on the Scrambler globally. But, whatever it is, the future is looking brighter for the brand as a whole.
