We found that the low stance, smooth surfaces, and aerodynamic shape (0.219 Cd) all come together to give it a strong road presence without trying too hard.

Front Profile

The Seal’s fascia is defined by a sharp and clean design with sleek LED headlamps and unique lighting elements. The ‘Glistening Ripple Lamps’ stand out and give it a distinctive identity, something you don’t usually see on other EVs. We also noticed how the front stays uncluttered, which adds to the premium feel.

Side Profile

From the side, the Seal looks more like a fastback than a traditional sedan, thanks to its sloping roofline. Despite this coupe-like styling, it still maintains proper sedan proportions, which we found impressive. The 19-inch alloy wheels, low ground clearance, and smooth body lines add to its sporty stance.

Rear Profile

At the rear, the design continues to stay minimal yet sporty. The clean layout, combined with an aggressive rear diffuser, gives it a planted look. We found that the overall design doesn’t rely on excessive elements but still manages to stand out, especially with its wide stance and balanced proportions.

The cabin of the BYD Seal follows the same minimalist approach as its exterior, with a clean dashboard and a strong focus on screens. We found that while the design isn’t overly flashy, it feels modern and well put together.

Cabin Layout and Quality

The layout is simple and centred around a large rotating touchscreen that dominates the dashboard. The gear selector, with its crystal finish, stands out as a premium touch. The overall fit and finish is solid, and the cabin feels airy thanks to the fixed glass roof. However, most controls are integrated into the screen, which can feel slightly distracting to use while driving.

Seating Comfort

First Row

The front seats have a sporty bucket-style design, but they remain comfortable with good cushioning and support. We found that the powered seat adjustments and memory function make it easy to find a good driving position. Despite the low-slung design of the car, space in the front feels adequate and not restrictive.

Second Row

Rear seat space is good, with enough knee room and headroom for most passengers. The seat cushioning is comfortable, and the back support is well-shaped for regular use. However, we found that the elevated floor compromises under-thigh support, and the footroom feels slightly restricted. While it is a five-seater on paper, the rear is best suited for two passengers, especially on longer journeys.

BYD has kept things simple with the Seal by offering it in three clear variants. The lineup starts with the Dynamic Range variant and goes up to the Performance variant, which focuses on outright speed.

For anyone considering a premium EV sedan, range is still one of the biggest deciding factors. The BYD Seal handles this well by offering strong claimed figures across all variants, and more importantly, numbers that feel realistic in everyday use.

Passive Safety and Crash Protection

The BYD Seal comes with nine airbags as standard, offering strong protection for both front and rear occupants. It also gets traction control, hill hold assist, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera. During our evaluation, the car felt stable and confidence-inspiring, especially at higher speeds, which adds to the overall sense of safety.

Active Safety and Stability Systems

The Seal is equipped with a Level 2 ADAS suite that includes multiple driver assistance features aligned with global standards. While we didn’t get enough time to fully test these systems in all real-world scenarios, they do add an extra layer of safety and convenience.

Safety Verdict

The BYD Seal has received a full five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. With nine airbags, a comprehensive safety package, and advanced driver assistance systems, it comes across as a well-equipped and reassuring electric sedan for everyday as well as long-distance use.

The BYD Seal focuses on a clean, modern cabin while adding tech that feels advanced, but could need some getting used to in daily driving.

Infotainment and Interface

• The Seal uses a large 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen along with a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display.
• The infotainment system is smooth and responsive, with sharp graphics and no noticeable lag.
• The interface feels closer to using a tablet, which makes it intuitive, but also means most controls are screen-based.
• AC functions are integrated into the display, and while they are always accessible, relying on touch inputs can be distracting on the move.
• Under bright sunlight, the visibility of the screen can drop, which is something we noticed quickly.

Cabin Convenience and Practical Tech

• The Seal comes with features like ventilated and heated seats, an eight-way powered driver seat with memory, and a powered passenger seat.
• The panoramic glass roof adds to the sense of space, though the absence of a sunshade may not suit all conditions.
• The cabin is practical, with two wireless phone chargers, multiple Type-A and Type-C ports, and a heads-up display adding to convenience.
• The 12-speaker sound system delivers a rich listening experience, especially on longer drives.
• Storage is well thought out, with large bottle holders, usable centre console space, and additional storage under the floating console.

• The Seal offers a 400-litre boot, which is sufficient for weekend luggage of small to medium suitcases.

City Driving

In the city, the Seal feels easy to drive despite its size. We found the power delivery smooth and immediate, which makes quick gaps and overtakes effortless. The suspension absorbs small bumps well, keeping the cabin comfortable. Regenerative braking can be adjusted, and in its balanced setting, it feels natural for daily traffic conditions.

Highway Driving

On the highway, the Seal feels very stable and composed. We noticed that the low stance and balanced weight distribution help it stay planted, even at higher speeds. Acceleration is strong across variants, and overtakes happen quickly without much effort. Ride quality remains comfortable, though you need to slow down over sharp bumps or large speed breakers due to the low ground clearance.

For everyday city driving, the Dynamic variant is more than sufficient. The 510 km claimed range is practical for daily use, and we found the performance (201 bhp) to be smooth and easy to manage in traffic.

Best for Long Drives: Premium Range (82.56 kWh)

For highway drives and longer trips, the Premium variant makes more sense. With a claimed range of up to 650 km, we found it better suited for covering longer distances with fewer charging stops. It also offers stronger performance, which helps during overtakes and highway cruising.

Best Performance Option: Performance (AWD)

If performance is your priority, the top-spec Performance variant stands out. With 523 bhp and a 0–100 kmph time of just 3.8 seconds, it is really quick and engaging to drive. The dual-motor AWD setup also adds more confidence, especially at higher speeds.

Best Value Overall: Premium Range

The Premium variant delivers the best balance. It offers the highest claimed range, strong performance, and all the essential features without reaching the top-end price. For most buyers, we found this to be the most well-rounded choice.
