It's finally here, Tesla's biggest electric offering yet, the all-electric semi truck has been unveiled and quite aptly called 'Tesla Semi. The newest hauler is a mid-size transport vehicle and gets all the bells and whistles you would expect from a semi-truck, while packing in the autonomous driving technology too.

Hubertus Troska, head of Daimler's greater China operations, told reporters that the investment was part of Daimler's previously announced 10 billion euros ($11.8 billion) global green car initiative.

China has set strict quotas for electric and plug-in hybrid cars that come into effect from 2019. It has an ambitious target of 2 million NEV sales by 2020 and has signalled longer-term it will phase out the sale of conventional petrol-engine cars.

These vehicles are financed as a part of larger financing arrangement between Zoomcar and Mahindra Finance, which will see Zoomcar obtain customised EV financing.

China has set stringent production quotas for NEVs which automakers must meet by 2019, a move that is prompting a flurry of electric car deals and new launches of battery electric and plug-in hybrid models as automakers in China race to ensure they do not fall short.

The EESL would also have plans for procuring electric buses in the country but the scale of business would depend on demand.

VW has been mulling over the Beetle to go all electric, and with the electrification process in the works, top officials feel this is the right time to convert the upcoming Beetle into an all electric powertrain with a rear wheel drive functionality.

The planning process is based on a five-step process -- project kickoff, formation of "long list" of locations, streamlining and timing, documentation and wrap-up.
