What's New?
The 2021 Ducati Monster goes on sale in India, with prices starting at Rs. 12.95 lakh and going up to Rs. 15.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The Monster brand from Ducati is over 25 years old and represents the naked sport portfolio from Ducati. Now the new Monster on the block is a brand new model and sees updates in every department, which includes the chassis, engine, design and the set of features as well. Bookings for the new Monster have already begun and interested customers can book the motorcycle at any Ducati dealership for an amount of Rs. 1 lakh.
The design of the new Monster sees an update as well. The motorcycle seems to be a lot leaner and meaner than before and looks sharper than before. The panels and the headlight design are different and the LED ring around the headlight looks really good. The rear section too looks sleek and the overall silhouette of the motorcycle does seem to be sportier than before.
The Ducati Monster does away with its iconic trellis frame and now gets an Aluminium frame and an Aluminium swingarm, which is inspired by the Panigale V4. The sub-frame at the rear is made of glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP), making it lighter and stronger than before. The new Monster is 18 kg lighter than the Monster 821, with a dry weight of 166 kg.
The new Monster gets meaty 43 mm upside down fork with 130 mm travel and an adjustable monoshock at the rear with 140 mm travel. The bike also gets new 17-inch alloys which are lighter than before. They are shod with Pirelli Diablo Rosso III rubber, a 120/70 unit up front and a 180/55 unit at the rear. Up front it gets twin Brembo M4.32 4-piston monobloc callipers that grip two 320 mm discs. At the rear the bike gets a single 245 mm disc gripped by a Brembo calliper. Like the front brake, the rear calliper too features sintered brake pads.
The engine on the new Monster is a new unit as well. The L-Twin engine displaces 937 cc and is liquid-cooled. The same engine also does duty on the Ducati HyperMotard and the 2021 Ducati SuperSport. On the Monster, it is tuned to make 110 bhp at 9,250 rpm along with peak torque output of 93 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox and Ducati offers a bi-directional quick-shifter as standard fitment.
The new Ducati Monster gets ABS, cornering ABS, power launch, traction control and wheelie control along with ride-by-wire and three riding modes which are Sport, Touring and Urban. All modes allow the rider to adjust the other electronics as per their requirement. The new Ducati Monster also gets a new 4.3-inch full colour TFT instrument console with graphics inspired by the Panigale V4. Globally, the naked middleweight motorcycle gets two variants, Monster and the Monster Plus. The latter gets a flyscreen atop the headlight and a cowl for the rear seat.
In India, the Ducati Monster will go up against the Triumph Street Triple R and the Kawasaki Z900.
