The new Bajaj Pulsar NS125 is the first 125 cc in the NS series, and is positioned as the entry-level performance model, aimed at young enthusiasts. It may be just a 125 cc motorcycle, but Bajaj says the Pulsar NS125 brings the thrill of sporty dynamics to enthusiastic young riders. With class-leading performance, Bajaj says the NS125 is the most powerful in its segment, and offers a lower price point into the range of sporty 125 cc motorcycles
Bajaj Pulsar NS125
The Bajaj Pulsar NS125 is a popular product in its segment while using a perimeter frame that is synonymous with larger NS siblings and is positioned aptly between conventional commuter motorcycles and sportier options in the 125 cc category.
How is the design?
The design is similar to the NS200 and 160 models with unique color options. The wheels and body get an anodized finish which is also quite attractive. The Pulsar NS125 gets similar components as the NS160 like the fuel tank, clip-on handlebar, visor, and semi-digital instrument console. New body graphics and paint schemes complete the picture to perfection. The NS125 does not get several features though which many of its rivals have, including LED headlamps, and side-stand engine cut-off along with the gear position indicator.
How is the performance?
The Bajaj Pulsar NS125 comes with a single cylinder 124.5 cc air cooled SOHC engine that makes 12 PS and 11 Nm of maximum torque. This is paired to a five speed transmission system. The engine may seem small but still manages to pack quite a punch as well. The engine has good revving abilities and you will like pushing it on the road. The bike also performs due to its comparatively lighter weight. The NS125 does feel underpowered at times with the power lag going up with higher speeds. However, it does have a crisp and punchy mid-range which comes into play at approximately 6,000 RPM. The engine also offers a more tractable feel and this makes it ideal for commuting in the city and fast overtaking whenever required, with linear delivery of power and also clean pulling from lower speeds while in the fourth gear. The transmission system feels accurate and nice to use. You can see the engine running out of breath while riding on the highway although it can nicely maintain 70-80 kmph with a few vibrations. You also have to go down by a gear if you are not in the power-band.
How does the Bajaj Pulsar NS125 ride?
The Bajaj Pulsar NS125 rides well with its light and accurate steering radius and slimmer tyres along with the smaller wheelbase. The tyres could have been better enabling them to dampen the overall riding experience slightly. The seat height of 805 mm is taller although it will be fine for most users. There is good ground clearance in spite of the exhaust position. The suspension system takes care of flattening undulations although the monoshock has a firmer feel to it and is not as stiff as you may anticipate. The braking is good enough with drum and disc brakes at the rear and front alike. They come with good performance overall, although the quality could have been better due to the absence of suitable progression.
How comfortable is the Bajaj Pulsar NS125?
The bike handles rather well with its lighter weight. The seat height is a tad higher than what many riders would like. The bike can turn swiftly and is fast and responsive while being stable and planted. The stiffer suspension is a boon in this regard. Yet, the tyres do not inspire a lot of confidence though the bike offers decent overall comfort and riding quality.
How’s the tech?
The bike does not get an LED lighting setup and a digital instrument console along with a USB charger. There is a semi-digital instrument cluster with the pilot lamps and infinity twin-strip tail lights which are LEDs. There is also the split grab rail and split seat.
How’s the mileage of the Bajaj Pulsar NS125?
The Bajaj Pulsar NS125 offers fuel economy of 50-55 kmpl.
Is the Bajaj Pulsar NS125 good value for money?
The Bajaj Pulsar NS125 offers decent value for money and that too at a competitive price point. It also comes with a sporty engine and offers a fun riding experience. The entry-level bike could also be a good option for those looking for something more than a regular commuter motorcycle.
How is the after sales service?
The first service comes after 500-700 km while the second one comes after 4500-5000 km. The third service comes after 9500-10000 km.
Which motorbikes compete in this segment?
The Pulsar NS125 competes with the KTM 125 Duke which has a 124.71 cc single cylinder DOHC engine. It makes 14.5 PS and 12 Nm of maximum torque. There is also a 6-speed gearbox on offer. The KTM 125 Duke offers a sportier feel while other rivals include the Honda SP 125 and the TVS Raider in this category.
Verdict (Is it value for money)
There is a highly tractable engine along with good performance and also better ergonomics. The Bajaj Pulsar NS125 also comes with an attractive price point and looks stylish enough. It does lack features and the engine does feel slightly underpowered at times. The engine could have done with higher refinement while the overall package feels slightly outdated in comparison to more contemporary rivals.
