Porsche’s shocking failure to enter Formula One has left many baffled
Porsche made multiple attempts to enter the world
of Formula One, but has met with failure. The brand wanted to enter as a
part of the new engine guidelines, while holding talks with Red Bull for this
purpose

Porsche wished for a 50% buy-in of Red Bull while
getting its own supply of engines. Red Bull was not willing to share control
as per reports and hence the talks came to naught. McLaren also held talks
with not just Porsche, but also Audi, although it was also unwilling to cede
control or its naming rights

Getting a new Porsche F1 team was
cost-prohibitive and also involved several other hurdles. Red Bull has now
tied up with Ford, while Audi has joined as a power unit supplier with
Sauber from 2026. Porsche last had an uneventful partnership with Footwork
in 1991
