New ShiftCam Engine in the Works for BMW G 310 Range!

BMW plans a new shiftcam engine with variable valve timing for the G 310
The 312 cc engine is in for a major tweak as far as the BMW G 310 is concerned. The company has recently filed a patent for the new ShiftCam single-cylinder engine. There are two unique cam profiles for the inlet valves. This could be used for the G 310 line-up as per reports
What BMW is Planning
BMW is working on this system with dual camshafts overhead. The G 310 models and C 400 scooters are the sole single-cylinder offerings in the brand’s product range. However, the latter only gets a single camshaft overhead, indicating that the patent is for the G 310 range
What Else Do We Know
This makes use of a solenoid actuator for sliding the intake camshaft along the axis, which brings together various cam profiles in contact with the inlet valves. One cam profile is for the lower RPMs with a lower lift and shorter duration, while another is for higher RPMs with longer duration and higher lift
How Does the System Function
There is no official confirmation on whether BMW will launch it alone or collaborate with TVS for the 310 cc models in its line-up. The Apache RR 310 from TVS has used the same powertrain till date as the BMW G 310 line-up. It may thus benefit from the introduction of this new technology
Will BMW launch It Soon
