Now in it’s seventh generation, the new SL gets notable changes over its predecessor
First AMG Developed SL
The new SL is the first in Mercedes’ history to have been developed from the grounds up by it’s performance division AMG
While the past few generations were hard-top convertibles, the seventh-gen SL marks the return of the fabric soft-top after a two-generation gap
Return of the Soft Top
Only the AMG SL 55 for Now
Globally the new Mercedes-AMG SL is available in 43, 55 and 63 guise though we only get the 55 currently
Styling
The SL gets typical roadster styling with a low and sleek stance, long bonnet and short overhangs. The car also gets AMG-typical touches such as aggressive bumpers and the Panamericana grille
Interior
The SL gets a minimalist cabin design with a 2+2 seating layout. The large portrait-style central touchscreen controls a majority of in-car functions and can be adjusted by up to 20 degrees to reduce reflection
Engine
Under the hood sits a 469 bhp and 700 Nm, 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 sending power to all four-wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox
Price
The AMG SL 55 has been priced at ₹ 2.35 crore (ex-showroom) putting it in the same bracket as a Porsche 911 Cabriolet
