2014 Auto Expo: Auto Expo opens doors to public from today
Highlights
We have taken you through the on goings at the Auto Expo for the past two days and have also been able to tell you about the cars you can expect to see here. With over 40 cars and bikes unveiled on day one and a few more on day two, this year the Auto Expo is not to be missed. The Auto Expo opens to the public today and you can book your tickets online or get them at the venue itself.
Having shifted the venue, this year, from the centrally located Pragati Maidan to Greater Noida's Expo Mart, the Delhi Auto Expo joins the big leagues of motorshows like Tokyo and the others with its strong organizational skills and Not as extravagant or flamboyant as Geneva or Frankfurt, but we expect it to get there by 2016.
We spoke to a few officials from the automotive industry to get their feedback about this years Auto Expo. Nagesh Basavanhalli, President and MD, Fiat and Chrysler Group India said, "This year we've seen a sea of change in the way the Auto Expo has been organized. A new venue at par with International standards and a great platform for Fiat who revealed the four new products that will make its way to India."
Even a small chat with Shiro Nakamura, Senior vice president and chief creative officer, design and brand management for Nissan Motor Company, Ltd, revealed how important the Indian market is for the car manufacturers that display their products. "It is a great show and when the public sees the product, you can see it on their faces if they like it or not. For a design person, that is extremely important."
There are many concepts on display, but the flavor of the 2014 Auto Expo has been sub 4-metre sedans and the compact SUV's. Right from Hyundai, Fiat, Tata, Ford, Maruti Suzuki, Toyota and others have come out with production ready or concept cars which will adorn this segment.
Even Honda President and CEO Takanobu Ito, said "It's great to come to India and this is one place that is very important for Honda. The company has done good business here in the past year we are looking forward to show what we have to offer to India"
There was no dearth of celebrities either, this year, and the glamour quotient came in the form of Bollywood actors like Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor. There are more celebrities lined up over the weekend as well.
This year, and everyone from the Automotive fraternity would agree, the Auto Expo has been extremely well organized and this just goes to show that India too can manage to put on a show as per International standards. The Auto Expo opens its door to the public from the 7th-11th of this month. So, go ahead and enjoy your weekend looking at the cars of the future!
