Maruti Suzuki's Domestic Sales Grows By 15.5 Per Cent

Maruti Suzuki has had another month of decent growth after its overall domestic sales for the month of May 2017 grew by 15.5 per cent. The company's maximum volumes came from the Utility Vehicle segment where the sales of the Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross and the Vitara Brezza saw a growth of 66 per cent over May 2016.

Maruti Suzuki has had another month of decent growth after its overall domestic sales for the month of May 2017 grew by 15.5 per cent. The company's maximum volumes came from the Utility Vehicle segment where the sales of the Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross and the Vitara Brezza saw a growth of 66.3 per cent over May 2016. The company sold a total of 22,608 utility vehicles as compared to 13,596 units in May 2016. The 'Mini cars' segment which includes the Alto and the WagonR, showed a growth in sales for May 2017 by 18.1 per cent wherein they sold 39,089 units as compared to 33,105 units in May 2016.

The 'Compact cars' segment which includes the Swift, Ritz, Baleno, Ignis, Dzire and the Celerio grew by 10.1 per cent, selling a total of 51,234 units in May 2017 as compared to 46,554 units sold in May 2016. The company sold a total of 12,593 vans in May 2017, which is a growth of 3.5 per cent over May 2016 where Maruti Suzuki sold 12,164 vans including the Omni and the Eeco. Lastly, the company sold 4,724 units of the Ciaz in May 2017 as compared to 5,188 units sold in May 2016, registering a drop of -8.9 per cent.

The combined domestic sales of Maruti Suzuki for the month of May 2017 stood at 130,676 units which also include 428 units of the Maruti Super Carry which is a light commercial vehicle. The corresponding figure for the month of May 2016 was 113,162 units. The total growth reported is 15.5 per cent. Coming to exports, the company exported a total of 6,286 units in May 2017 as compared to 9,872 units in May 2016, registering a percentage drop of 36.3 points.

The overall sales of Maruti Suzuki which includes domestic and export numbers is 136,962 units, which is 11.3 per cent higher than the overall sales of May 2016 at 123,034 units.

But if we compare the sales figures of May 2017 to the sales figures of April, 2017, then one sees that the overall domestic sales has decreased by a good 13,816 units, which is a negative growth of 9.56 per cent. The overall exports also dropped by 437 units from 6,723 units in April 2017 to 6,286 units in May 2017 showing a negative growth of 6.5 per cent.
