Mahindra U321 MPV Spotted Again With Few Production-Ready Parts
Highlights
- The Mahindra U321 is likely to be launched next year
- The upcoming MPV will be a proper 7-seater model with premium features
- The Mahindra U321 MPV will rival the likes of Toyota Innova Crysta
We had told you that Mahindra is working on an all-new MPV, codenamed U321, which will rival the likes of Toyota Innova Crysta. A test mule of the upcoming MPV was recently spotted testing in India again, and this time around the U321 was seen with few production parts like LED daytime running lights, taillamps and front and rear bumpers. In fact, the SUV itself, tough heavily camouflaged, still looks near-production and there is a possibility that Mahindra might unveil the MPV at the upcoming Auto Expo 2018.
Visually, it's clear that the new Mahindra MPV will be massive in size, as large as the current-gen Toyota Innova Crysta, judging by one of the previous spy shots where a test mule of the MPV was spotted alongside an Innova. In terms of styling, the MPV will come with all the signature attribute of a Mahindra SUV, like the chrome-toothed grille, large double-barrelled projector headlamps, which also expect to come with a set of LED DRLs and beefy front bumper with a larger centre airdam. The test mule is still seen in steel wheels and at the rear, the U321 will come with vertically positioned tail lights, bumper mounted reflector units, and a roof-mounted LED stop lamp.
As for the interior, there is still a lot to be known about the MPV's cabin but in one of the previously seen spy images, we did get a decent look at the new dashboard. The cabin will come in dual tone theme in black and beige combination, a new steering wheel, and a touchscreen system which is likely to be the same 7-inch unit seen on the XUV500. The lower variants will come with light-coloured fabric upholstery and most likely in a 7 or 8-seater layout, while the higher variant will get leather interiors, automatic climate control, rear parking camera, keyless entry and more.
Under the hood, rumour suggests that the Mahindra U321 MPV is expected to feature the company's new 1.6-litre diesel engine that is set to join the mFalcon family. Although, we expect the carmaker to offer the new engine in the lower variants, while the higher models might come with the tried and tested 2.2-litre mHawk engine. That being said, Mahindra is also working on a new 1.5-litre petrol engine for the XUV500 and we might get to see the new powertrain in the upcoming MPV as well.
