Formula 1 Insiders Guide: What Happens On Race Day

Before the F1 race begins, the team goes through prep and events to gear themselves. Everything is pre-planned and carefully scheduled from the morning to five minutes before the race. Let's see what a Formula 1 race day looks like without further ado!
Morning – Pre-race Prep
The team arrives at the track at 7.30 am. The strategy department holds a meeting to outline the preferred plans. Drivers start their race day with some sports massage and warm-up exercise. Also, drivers consume electrolyte drinks and water to stay hydrated and mentally sharp.

90 Mins Before the Race – Race Briefing
One and a half hours before the race, the whole team gathers in the garage for briefing of the race plan. They discuss pit stop scenarios, weather reports, and starting plans.
60 Mins Before the Race – Grid Preparation and Driver Warm-up
With just one hour left for the race, the drivers perform reaction drills, stretching, active exercises, and eye muscle exercises to prep themselves.
Meanwhile, the mechanics transfer the trolleys to the grid. Additionally, they prep the generators and cooling fans to cool the racing cars.

40 Mins Before the Race – Pit Lane Opens
The pit lane opens 40 mins before the race time. At this time, the cars settle on the installation lap. Drivers take their vehicles for a test around the installation lap to get the feel of the conditions.
The team inspects the car based on the driver's inputs. The rest of the group also checks the race radio transmissions. An information flow also includes updates on last-minute problems, tire temperature instructions, and weather conditions.
The senior race engineer and mechanic fit tire blankets, cooling fans, and cords to control the car. On the other hand, powerplant engineers prep the start sequence.
30 Mins Before the Race – Pit Lane Closes
Thirty minutes before the race, the cars should leave the garage and join the lane. Additionally, the drivers participate in the grid's final procedures, including the national anthem. A slew of signals and sirens mark the countdown to the start of the race.

10 Mins Before the Race - Grid Clearance
As race time approaches, the hustle-bustle in the grid calms down. Only FIA officials, start crews, and drivers are left in the grid. Engineers run last-minute checks, and drivers perform pre-race rituals.
Countdown, Formation, and Finally, the Race!
Five minutes before the race, the team must fit the wheels and disconnect the tire blankets from power. The lead engineering team assembles on the pit wall after clearing all non-essential equipment from the grid. Once the one-min signal hits, the team should remove the tire blankets and start the engines.
The cars approach the formation lap, where they cannot overtake each other. The drivers use this time to select the setting to heat the brakes and perform pre-start operations.
Once the cars line up, the five red light start sequence begins. As soon as these signals go out, the cars shoot forward and the race begins.
