Highlights

The new generation of the Hyundai Creta was first showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo and it was after that we got to see the car in the flesh. It was a big move from what the Creta was because the new-gen was bigger, better and more tech focused than before. Of course, throw in the value for money offering of the compact SUV and you understand why it reigns supreme in this segment. The Hyundai Creta then is one of the obvious of choices if you're looking for a compact SUV and there's a lot that this car brings to the table. So let's take a quick look at the 5 Pros and Cons of the Hyundai Creta.

    Pros

    1. The interior of the SUV has been revamped completely. The 1.5-litre models get a dual-tone black and beige colour scheme, while the 1.4-litre turbo models get an all-black colour scheme. Talking about the dashboard, the new Creta gets a completely new unit and has a minimalist feel to it. You also get a sense of space, even with the dark colours, thanks to the new design.
    2. The centrepiece is the new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. The screen is capacitive and quite intuitive as well. The visibility is sharp and there are multiple options in terms of customising the widget options. Plus, the new Hyundai Creta is also a connected car, like the Venue and the top models will have Hyundai's BlueLink connectivity technology. Under the infotainment unit are the controls for climate control and to be honest, they look a little underwhelming.

The Creta faces stiff competition from the Kia Seltos in the segment

    3. Top-spec models also get a new panoramic sunroof on offer as well along with wireless charging, ambient lighting, an 8-speaker Bose audio system and a small digital display on the arm rest for the rear passengers. The display offers controls for the air purifier, which is a neat touch. The SUV also gets smartwatch app connectivity, ventilated seats, electric parking brake, ambient lighting tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a reversing camera.
    4. There will be three engine options on the new generation Creta, a 1.5-litre petrol, a 1.5-litre VGT diesel and the 1.4-litre Turbo GDI petrol. The naturally aspirated petrol and diesel engines pump out 113 bhp and 144 Nm and 250 Nm of peak torque respectively, while the turbo petrol makes 138 bhp and 242 Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual which will be standard across the range, along with an optional torque convertor for the 1.5 diesel engine, 7-speed DCT on the 1.4 turbo petrol, and the iVT automatic for the 1.5 petrol motor.
    5. The dimensions of the Creta have grown and that makes it a more spacious car as also gets a bigger bootspace than before. The width of the car gives it a larger appearance and that gives it a commanding stance on the road

    CONS

    1. The design of the Creta is something you have to get used to. Design anyway is a subjective matter but we feel that it could have been more aggressive.
    2. The Creta's driving dynamics could have been better as the steering does not weigh up as much when the speed of the SUV goes up. It's great though and manoeuvrable in city driving conditions.
    3. The waiting period for the Creta goes up to nearly 8 months, depending on the variant you are looking for and that's a long wait!
    4. The Creta's base trim does not get too much equipment, in fact there's no audio system available in it and that means you have to go a variant higher to get it
    5. Hyundai has done a lot to make the Creta plusher than before but we think there could be more soft touch materials used in the car to make it a bit more appealing. Using only hard plastic in the cabin is a bit of a miss we think.
