Honda City Crosses 7 Lakh Cumulative Sales Milestone In India

Honda had sold 59,378 units of the first generation Honda City from 1998 to 2003, while from 2003 to 2008, it sold close to 1,77,742 units of second generation City. From 2008-2013, it sold 1,92,939 units of the City and from 2014 till now, the company has managed to sell 2,69,941 units of the model.

    Leading passenger cars manufacturer, Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) announced that the City sedan has crossed 7 lakh units sales milestone in the country. The company introduced Honda City in India in 1998 and recently gave it a facelift. India accounts for over 25 per cent of the model's worldwide sales. The company sold 59,378 units of the first generation Honda City from 1998 to 2003. From 2003 to 2008 it sold 1,77,742 units of second generation City. In 2008-2013, HCIL sold 1,92,939 units of the sedan and from 2014 till now, the company has sold 2,69,941 units of the model.

    Yoichiro Ueno, President & CEO, Honda Cars India said "Honda City is our bestseller model in India and the only premium sedan to achieve cumulative sales of 7 lakh units in the country. With a strong legacy of four generations, the City brand has evolved with the changing tastes and aspirations of our customers. We thank all our City customers for their patronage of the brand."

    In May this year, the 2017 Honda City had received over 25,000 orders since it was launched in February. The fourth-generation of the Honda City car had bagged more than 14,000 bookings within a month of its launch. Ueno had then informed that over 40 per cent of the bookings for the Honda City were for the top-of-the-line ZX variant. This variant is priced at Rs. 13.52 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

    The 2017 Honda City came with major cosmetic upgrades and new features though it continues to be offered with the same engine options- a 1.5-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel mill. Offered across a total of 11 variants, prices range between Rs. 8.5 lakh to Rs. 13.56 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
