Highlights

  • Leaked images showcase the long-wheelbase 3 Series
  • Cosmetic changes include a revised grille, headlamps and new bumpers
  • Engine line-up expected to remain unchanged.

The BMW 3 Series facelift is all set to make its global debut this year and images of the upcoming compact premium sedan have leaked online ahead of its global debut. The car we see in these images is the long wheelbase or the Gran Limousine version of the 3 Series. Now coming to the changes, the new 3 Series facelift is likely to get subtle styling updates and we are quite relieved that the Bavarian carmaker didn't choose to go with the obnoxious bulbous grille, which we have seen on other BMW models of late.

Changes include revised headlamps, grille and new bumper

As the images suggest, the front-end of the new 3 Series looks quite sharp and gets new headlamps, revised grille with chrome inserts, reworked bumpers and larger air curtains. The profile of the sedan looks near identical but the new car is expected to come with a new set of alloy wheels. Even at the rear, the updated 3 Series gets tweaked bumper and the M Sport trim is expected to get visible exhausts as well. Now we still don't have images of cabin, but it is unlikely to get any major changes. Expect a larger and more hi-tech infotainment system and a new digital instrument cluster along with new trim options.

Mechanically, the new BMW 3 Series is likely to remain unchanged. So expect the same 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines to be on offer on both 3 Series and 3 Series GL. That said, the performance-oriented BMW M340i will come with the same 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, twin-turbo engine mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The new BMW 3-Series will continue to rival the likes of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, Volvo S60 and Jagaur XE.
