Cons

- Fit & Finish Not As Good As Competition
Unlike the usual MMC or minor model change, this one is just an update. On the whole, the Honda Jazz remains a credible and convenient car, which offers a good alternative to the rest of the premium hatch crop. The WR-V has certainly been a runaway success for Honda and the Jazz has perhaps felt a bit ignored! But its petrol CVT option remains a good choice too - considering the WR-V does not offer automatic.
The 2018 Honda Jazz was an upgraded iteration of Honda's premium hatchback, offering a compelling blend of spaciousness, comfort, engine reliability, and a robust assortment of tech features. Positioned within the highly competitive premium hatchback segment, it contended with formidable rivals such as the Hyundai i20 and Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
The design and styling of the 2018 Honda Jazz remained largely faithful to its predecessor, maintaining a sleek and sporty aesthetic characterised by a prominent grille, angular headlights and a gently sloping roofline. Notable updates included the introduction of new LED tail lights, featuring an eye-catching tubular element connecting the split parts, and the incorporation of chrome door handles on the top-spec variant. Additionally, the model introduced two fresh colour options – Radiant Red and Lunar Silver.
The most significant changes in the 2018 Honda Jazz were found on the inside. The vehicle boasted of a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Digipad 2.0, equipped with navigation, support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, reverse camera display, and voice command functionality. The steering wheel integrated cruise control capabilities, in addition to audio and phone controls. The push-start button, while illuminated in red, remained absent in the top-spec petrol variant. Other enhancements included the addition of a front centre armrest, a driver-side vanity mirror, and improved noise insulation. The cabin itself was spacious and well-ventilated, providing ample headroom, legroom, and storage space.
The 2018 Honda Jazz placed a strong emphasis on safety, with a comprehensive array of features offered as standard across all trim levels. These included dual airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, speed-sensing door locks, and seat belt reminders. The vehicle's robust body structure was proficient at absorbing impacts. However, it did not incorporate advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), such as lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, or autonomous emergency braking.
Buyers could choose between two engines. The first one was a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 89 bhp and 110 Nm of torque. The second one was a 1.5-litre diesel engine that was more powerful with 99 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. Both engines came with a 5-speed manual transmission, but the petrol engine could also be had with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT automatic) for more flexibility. These engines were designed to run smoothly, save fuel, and be environmentally friendly. However, they were not as powerful and exciting as some other engines found in similar cars.
The driving experience in the 2018 Honda Jazz is characterised by its nimbleness, responsive steering, and commendable visibility. The suspension is finely tuned for comfort and compliance. The vehicle excels on city streets and highways but struggles on rough terrains and tight corners. The ride quality is comfortable and stable but doesn't necessarily provide an engaging or sporty experience.
The 2018 Honda Jazz was competitively priced in the premium hatchback segment. The petrol range started at Rs. 7.35 lakh and reached Rs. 8.99 lakh, while the diesel models ranged from Rs. 8.05 lakh to Rs. 9.29 lakh (Honda Jazz ex-showroom price in Delhi). Given the features and spaciousness it had to offer, the model represented good value for money.
The ideal variant to select from the 2018 Honda Jazz lineup depends on your preferences and budget. For those seeking a petrol automatic option, the VX CVT stands as the sole choice, offering all the necessary features and convenience. If a diesel manual option is preferred, the V MT is a strong candidate, providing most of the features found in the VX MT, with the exception of chrome door handles and the push-start button. For those desiring a petrol manual option, the choice can be made between the S MT and V MT variants, contingent on the importance placed on the Digipad 2.0 system.
The 2018 Honda Jazz faced formidable competition within the premium hatchback market, particularly from the Hyundai i20 and Maruti Suzuki Baleno. The i20 offered greater power and performance, a more extensive array of features, and a more pronounced sense of design flair and style. However, it sacrificed on space and fuel efficiency compared to the Jazz. The Baleno offered superior space and fuel efficiency, a broader selection of variants and customisation options, enhanced affordability, and an extensive service network, but fell short in terms of features and safety compared to the Jazz.
