Maruti Suzuki India is on a roll as it readies the launch of the new Maruti Suzuki Alto, most likely on August 18, 2022. The company will bring in new elements to its smallest product in the range, built on a completely new platform and powered by a new engine option. The entry-level Alto hatchback is now in its third generation. With it, it receives several exterior and interior updates as well as will get a full comprehensive upgrade to its features list. Even the recent spy images revealed a few of these design changes to the new Alto that last underwent a generation change in 2012.

Even the recent spy images revealed a few of these design changes to the new Alto that last underwent a generation change in 2012.

The new Maruti Suzuki Alto will be built on Maruti’s modular Heartect platform, now a staple on most of the company’s products such as the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga as well as flagship Maruti Suzuki XL6. We will also see the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara built on the same platform. Coming back to the Maruti Suzuki Alto, the update will also equip the new Alto with two petrol engines- the tried & tested 796 cc engine and a new K10C 1.0-litre Dual-Jet unit, most recently seen in the Maruti Suzuki S Presso. While the smaller petrol unit develops 48 hp and 69 Nm of torque, the new unit will produce 67 bhp and 89 Nm, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The company could also offer its AGS or AMT unit with the new Maruti Suzuki Alto. Expect the new Maruti Suzuki Alto to be more rounded than before with a prominent haunch at the rear section of the car.

As far as the design goes, the test mules of the new Maruti Suzuki Alto spotted earlier revealed the new design direction taken by the company. And so, expect the new Maruti Suzuki Alto to be more rounded than before with a prominent haunch at the rear section of the car, identical to what we saw on the new Maruti Suzuki Celerio. A more sculpted tailgate as compared to the flat and upright unit from the current model, and a larger glasshouse are a few of the new design elements hinted at in the new Alto.

The inside of the new Maruti Suzuki Alto is also expected to receive a massive overhaul in terms of the design and the tech it will come equipped with. Apart from a refreshed theme of the dashboard, instrument cluster, and steering wheel, the new Alto will also feature Maruti’s 7.0-inch SmartPlay Studio infotainment system. As far as pricing goes, expect the new-generation Maruti Suzuki Alto to be priced between Rs. 4.15 lakh – Rs. 4.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India), positioned below the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso in the company’s line-up, Upon launch, the new Maruti Suzuki Alto will look to retain its position as the segment leader, while rivaling the Renault Kwid.
