Highlights

  • The Renault Duster is a very capable compact SUV
  • You can get diesel or the AWD versions of the Duster in the used market
  • The Duster is not very impressive in terms of creature comforts

The Renault Duster is a very capable compact SUV, and a much underrated one for that matter. The SUV offers great handling and driving dynamics and comes with good engine options. While the newer one is a petrol-only SUV, the BS4 version used to have diesel options as well. While the brand-new Duster turbo petrol option is a great choice if you are looking for a capable compact SUV, however, if you are planning to get one from the pre-owned market, here are the pros and cons of buying a used Renault Duster.

The new Renault Duster with the 1.3 Turbo MT offers a good blend of performance, ride and handling

Pros

1. Renault no longer offers the much-loved diesel engine with the Duster. So, if you are looking for that, the used market is the place to check.

2. The Renault Duster also used to come with a four-wheel-drive (4WD) earlier, and if you want an all-wheel-drive compact SUV, then a used Duster might be the way to go.

3. The Duster comes with an efficient petrol engine and a powerful diesel motor. The newer BS6 version also comes with a turbo petrol engine.

4. The pre-owned Renault Duster offers quite an impressive value. You can get a decent one for around Rs. 4.5 lakh to Rs. 7 lakh.

Cons

1. The Duster has hardly seen any major update since its launch in India, so you won't get a used Duster with features like LED headlamps, LED taillamps or dual-tone alloys.

2. There's no easy way to say it but the Duster gets a very unimpressive cabin. The design is dated, and the materials used inside are not very good in terms of quality.

3. While the existing Duster does get some decent features, the pre-facelift model which is largely what's available in the used car market is pretty basic when it comes to features. So, no Apple Carplay or Android Auto, no sunroof etc.
