Highlights

  • New Vitara Brezza to be powered by 1.5-litre DualJet petrol engine
  • Expected to come with 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearboxes
  • Maruti could drop the Vitara name from the SUV

Maruti Suzuki will launch the new Vitara Brezza in India on June 30, 2022. The new subcompact SUV is slated to pack in more tech than its predecessor along with a new engine and new gearbox options. Based on multiple images of the undisguised SUV on the web, we can tell you that the new Brezza, like the new Baleno, doesn't stray far from the current model in terms of the overall design but with plenty of fresh details up front and at the rear to freshen up the look. Up front new shape headlamps with twin J-shaped DRLs flank a revised grille and a new bumper with a faux skid plate and smaller housings for the fog lamps. Round the back meanwhile, the tailgate is new as is the bumper and tail-lamp design. Redesigned alloy wheels and dual-tone paint options round out the exterior cosmetic changes. As per reports the Vitara Brezza is also expected to undergo a name change with the “Vitara” prefix being dropped from the name.

Spy pictures of the cabin have suggested a dashboard design similar to the new Baleno with a free-standing central touchscreen sitting atop the centre console on top variants. On the equipment front, the new Brezza is expected to pack in Maruti's latest connected car tech also featured in the Baleno along with kit such as a 9.0-inch touchscreen, cruise control, paddle shifters for the automatic gearbox and even a sunroof.

Coming to the engine, the new-gen subcompact SUV is expected to use the new 1.5-litre DualJet petrol engine that debuted in the facelifted Ertiga and XL6. The unit is expected to develop the same 102 bhp 138 Nm of torque as it does in Maruti's people-movers with a 5-speed manual gearbox to be the mainstay of the range. The current car's 4-speed torque converter automatic meanwhile is expected to make way for the new 6-speed unit from Maruti's MPVs.

The new Vitara Brezza will go up against the soon-to-launch Hyundai Venue facelift, the Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and Toyota Urban Cruiser.
