The Maruti Suzuki Alto has been the oldest brand name on sale in India till date. Over the time, it successfully became the successor to the Maruti Suzuki 800 and has reined the entry-level segment for decades. The 800 cc, three-cylinder motor feels apt in the Alto 800, belting out 41 bhp and 60 Nm of peak torque, and does the job for a city commuter. It gets features like a single-din audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, front power windows and central locking among other. Here are its top rivals.

Renault Kwid

The Renault kwid received a facelift in 2019.

The BS6 Renault Kwid with the 0.8-litre motor belts out 53 bhp and 72 Nm of peak torque, while the 1.0-litre version belts out 67 bhp and 91 Nm of peak torque. This engine comes mated to five-speed manual or an AMT transmission and in addition to other features, also gets a touchscreen unit that supports Bluetooth connectivity.

Datsun redi-Go

The Datsun Redi-GO received a facelift last year.

The Datsun redi-Go is essentially a sister model to the Renault Kwid. It received a facelift last year, giving it new styling elements like LED daytime running headlights, LED fog lamps and a more rugged looking front-end, courtesy its chunkier grille. Even the redi-Go is powered by the same 0.8-litre motor that belts out 53 bhp and 72 Nm of peak torque, while the 1.0-litre version belts out 67 bhp and 91 Nm of peak torque. This engine too comes mated to five-speed manual or an AMT transmission and in addition to other features, also gets a touchscreen unit that supports Bluetooth connectivity.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso gets a 1.0-litre motor under its hood.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is a slightly premium offering to the Alto 800 and gets the Smartplay Studio 7.0-inch Touchscreen unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with features like front power windows and remote locking. The S-Presso gets a 1.0-litre petrol engine that puts out 67 bhp at 5,500 rpm and 90 Nm of peak torque at 3,500 rpm and is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox as standard along with an optional AMT unit.
