Highlights

  • Ertiga is the most affordable MPV in the segment
  • Carens has the widest spread of variants with top variants being pricey
  • XL6 lacks a lower-specced base variant similar to rivals

Following close behind the facelifted Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki launched the XL6 facelift in India with prices starting from Rs. 11.29 lakh and going up to Rs. 14.55 lakh (ex-showroom, India). A sister model to the Ertiga, the facelifted MPV carries forward as a six-seater only but gets revised styling, a new more frugal petrol engine, a new automatic gearbox and new features such as a 360-degree camera, a new SmartPlay Pro infotainment system and more. The XL6 goes up against its sibling the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Kia Carens and the Mahindra Marazzo with the Toyota Innova Crysta being a larger and pricier alternative.

XL6 prices start at Rs 11.29 lakh though it lacks a true entry-level variant.

On the pricing front, it's the Ertiga that is the most affordable starting off at Rs. 8.35 lakhs – a notable Rs. 1.24 lakh more affordable than the next car in this list, the Kia Carens petrol. At Rs. 11.29 lakh, the XL6 is positioned similar to a lower mid-spec Carens though to be fair Maruti does not offer a more bare-bones version of the XL6. The XL6 lacks the Sigma and Delta variants offered in its Nexa compatriots with the MPV only available in Zeta, Alpha and a new range-topping Alpha+.

The 2022 Ertiga is the most affordable MPV with a starting price of Rs 8.32 lakh

Moving to the fully-loaded variants, the Ertiga is again the most affordable of the lot with prices topping out at Rs. 12.79 lakh for the top ZXi+ automatic. The XL6 at Rs. 14.55 lakh is Rs. 1.76 lakh pricier than the Ertiga though it does get you some additional features such as a tyre pressure monitor, a 360-degree camera and ventilated front seats.

Model Petrol Diesel
Maruti Ertiga Rs. 8.35 lakh - Rs. 12.79 lakh N/A
Maruti XL6 Rs. 11.29 lakh - Rs. 14.55 lakh N/A
Kia Carens Rs. 9.59 lakh - Rs. 17.49 lakh Rs 11.39 lakh - Rs. 17.69 lakh
Mahindra Marazzo N/A Rs. 13.79 lakh - Rs. 15.44 lakh

The Carens in typical Kia fashion is available in a vast spread of variants with the fully-loaded Luxury Plus DCT priced at Rs. 17.49 lakh. The Kia though is loaded to the gills with tech and does get you a more powerful turbo-petrol engine and a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Carens is available in a wide range of variants and with multiple powertrain options

On the diesel side of things, only the Marazzo and Carens feature with the former being the pricier of the two in terms of starting price. At Rs. 13.17 lakh, the Marazzo has a higher starting price though the Carens gets significantly pricier in higher variants. The Marazzo also stands out for being the only ladder-frame MPV in what has become a segment dominated by monocoque MPVs.

Speaking about MPVs one can't really leave out the venerable Innova Crysta. Prices for Toyota's MPV start at Rs. 17.45 lakh and go up to Rs. 25.68 lakh which makes it by far the most expensive MPV here. However, you do pay more for an MPV that is larger and in a higher segment to the XL6 and its rivals.

Marazzo is one of two diesel MPVs in the segment and the only one with ladder-frame construction.

Overall, in terms of pricing, Maruti can still say it has some of the most affordable cars in the market with the Ertiga being by far the most affordable model in this list and while the base Carens is more affordable than the XL6 one does need to consider than the XL6 lacks any variants below the mid-spec Zeta. Diesel buyers meanwhile have lesser choice in this segment with the main options only being the Marazzo or the Carens.
